As a poor kid growing up, swimming at the Pok-e-Dot roachtel and playing pinball on the Matahari at Dottie's Restaurant was the highlight of our summers.

Both on Cameron between 4 corners and Bertrand.

It is still an incredibly popular place and I'll never understand it. It's like everyone who is upper middle class has decided it's the spot we're going to meet and we'll just never discuss how mediocre the offerings actually are.

I guess the argument is that it's better than alternatives, but damn, people talk about LaFonda's like it's a national treasure at times.

Dottie's was our 3am post-drinking stop.

LaFonda's is hands down the most overrated place in Lafayette.

Nobody goes to LaFonda's for the food. You go to get tanked on margaritas while you wait for your table. If you remember the food you're doing it wrong.

By the way, the last Fat Albert's in Lafayette was just purchased by former UL Softball Coach Lotief.

Man, a lot of good stuff in here. I'm born and raised in Lafayette and live here now. Some great ones mentioned so far and maybe a few others...

Aladdin's castle in the mall
Catfish Shack
Q-Zar laser tag
Meltdown Hockey
Luther's BBQ
Street racing/car show in the Raccoon Records parking lot on Friday nights
Showbiz pizza
$1 theater by the Heymann center
Mr. Gatti's buffet on Johnston
Outdoor playground at McDonald's on Johnston with the Hamburger jail tower
Service Merchandise
Lagneaux's Seafood
The Blockbuster in Time Plaza
Durel's pet store
Cajun Heartland State Fair
Movie theater on Congress where RaceTrac is now
No Camellia blvd/bridge
White Diamonds pool hall

So many more I can't think of right now...

, like I said, for a place to be that busy for that long, you'd think they'd have a better offering overall.

Nonetheless, it's still quite popular, so it certainly deserves the mentions in this thread.

Shoutout to The Bike Rack, the bar in the old USL Student Union. Dollar pitchers of draft, every night.

I remember Cock of the Walk when I was very young. They had ducks in the moat around the restaurant. We used to eat at Catfish Shack a lot. The first one burned down then they rebuilt in the same spot. Anyone remember the ceiling being covered in dollar bills? They had a magician for kids night on Tuesdays who would do some trick where he stuck them up there. Catfish Shack was basically across the street from my old neighborhood. I drove by the area a few weeks ago and hardly recognized it.

Boudin/Sausage PoBoys at Comeaux's near campus

Comeaux's had solid boudin
Patsy's - on Souvenir Gate, Saint Street area, mom & pop grocery store, I remember the .50 cent chili cheese dogs
Lafayette Townhouse - I was a lifeguard there for several summers
La Fete restaurant - killer seafood buffet, with AYCE fried softshell crabs and frog legs. Right next to Chevron and Cajun Sno. Long brown building, was levelled years ago, may have been a Western Sizzler back in the early 80's ??
Toby's Oaks Lounge at 4 corners, lots of illegal shitt took place there
USL Bowling Alley on campus
Spanky's Health Club located in the back of La Promenade Mall , later was Beau Williford's boxing club. LP caught on fire and eventually bulldozed, nothing but concrete today.
McNaspy Stadium
Abdalla's downtown and near campus
Cappuccino Café in Time Plaza, first coffee shop opened in LAF by my ex-gf
Gourmet to Go also in Time Plaza , same location as Cap Café, owner was Ron Ray, then husband of Carolyn Doerle (Doerle Food Service). GTG was waaaaayyyy ahead of it's time. Very high end meals that were cooked and served to go.
First sushi in Laf was sold inside Chung King (currently Blue Basil). Tam was the owner/chef from Baton Rouge by way of Vietnam, and has since opened his own 2 restaturants - Samurai.
Golden China on Congress, currently Smitty's Wings (formerly Pilots Pub). GC was owned by Bob Lee and he shut down the restaurant after his wife got sick with cancer
New Generation didn't stay open long
The Landing Restaurant solid groceries, back in the day
Bennigan's remembered for Blarney Blast and where many a person got F'kd up during after hours parties
Antlers - RIP
Rays Sports Bar - post Ince Gator games, place was hopping
SouthSide Bakery - 65 yrs in business, family litigation doomed it's fate
Guidry's Reef another business closed b/c of family and money

What was the name of that High-end Audiophile store right next door to Brother's on the Blvd ? 1990-ish ?

FYI - in 1987 downtown Laffy, Jefferson Street was a ghost town with very few stores open. Pretty much what downtown Opelousas looks like. Wasn't a safe place to be after dark. Oil field crash wiped out lots of the Lafayette economy. People who bought property during this time (Dr. Michel Heard) have made insane amounts of money.

If we are going to do the surrounding area then you have to mention the Green Frog Lounge on Standard Mill between Rayne and Crowley.

Also gotta mention the Purple Peacok in Eunice.
