I dunno, have we achieved it with the flu and the common cold?

Yes or no?

frick off with this nonsense. The answers are more complex than yes or no. You're doing that bullshite lawyer thing where you try to frame a complex issue into some small one line question that couldn't possibly do enough to capture the entire situation.

Look at all the specific data and it's elderly and people with poor health conditions that are getting covid and dying. I have yet to see data that shows the vaccine significantly improves anything for younger, healthier people.

They want young people to get the vaccine so there isn't a bunch of Covid spreading to the old folks for whom the vaccine didn't work as well and for this people with underlying conditions. Since we know they won't work for some fraction of the population, increasing vaccinations decrease spread and potential for those people to catch it.

I know this should be fricking obvious but

I am not doing that at all.

The vaccines are either effective, or they are not.

If they are effective, then a higher percentage of vaccinated people will result in a significant reduction in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Is that true, or not?

Why does it not work as well in old people?

Sorry, I mean old people (those at higher risk) who are in the cohort that it isn't effective for. Not that it isn't specifically as effective for old people, which I don't know either way.

You literally just yes or no'ed me twice. And you've done it in other threads. It's a weak argument meant to fool idiots.

It's too early to say for sure.

Fairly certain no one has argued this. The argument is your fairy tell that that will keep the power hungry politicians from continuing to walk all over us.

Apparently it makes someone stupid to believe this, somehow.

I have said it will give them less of an excuse to do so.

The less excuse they have to justify their actions, the less political will they have to do it.

That is, of course, in theory, and in places where there is some level of opposition.

It would work in LA. It wouldn't work as well in New Orleans as it would in Bunkie.

JBE hasn't had the political capital to do what he's done for a very long time. You think that's stopping him any more than it did before?

I do, yeah. I think if he had his druthers we would have shut down almost two weeks ago.

I also think only having a 40% vaccination rate statewide, which is extremely pathetic, gives him massive cover to do it all again.

My only point has always been to take the excuse away from these frickers. That is it.

I do not understand how and why that is so controversial, or gets you so hot and bothered.

Animals can carry flu and transmit that to humans. That can make herd immunity difficult. In the next ten years we will have the capabilities to rid ourselves of flu from a vaccine( ).

Common cold isn't one particular virus, It's actually dozen of viruses. The most common is obviously rhino but that alone has hundred of strands. Common cold is by far the most difficult to reach herd immunity.

Are you retarded? I literally used the same play on words you used earlier about "some people being vaccinated will still get it".

You weren't wrong, but I am not either. To find that funny indicates you have some mild retardation. Try to keep up with your own comments at least.

Mask mandates coming for sure. Wish they would just put them on the unvaccinated

Why? Vaccinated individuals are also testing positive and are part of that number.

I agree that people who refuse to get vaccinated for political or ideological reasons are generally not the brightest bulbs, but it kinda is what it is at this point. I doubt they are gonna smarten up.

It's regrettable that a few more vaccinated people will get it, get sick and a few will die because of the overall increase and some vaccinated people will be unnecessarily inconvenienced by mask mandates for the same reason but hopefully those numbers stay small.

The unvaccinated can take their chances, which don't seem to be that high anyway.

It is obvious, but frick that. Elderly and unhealthy people are not my problem. Protect yourself how you need to. Your protection should not infringe upon my life. If you're not fit with your own immune system to battle this, then get the vaccine, minimize public interaction, social distance when in public and where a mask. I will respect all of that, but don't ask me to get a vaccine to protect someone else.
