Will it? Will they get extra ebt from the feds for a state sales tax increase?
It will at least eat into the funds they get no matter what.

How many baws paying +1% on one-at-a-time black and mild purchases will equate to one middle class individual paying another 1% on a vehicle purchase.

They need to cut spending and stop with the tax shuffle shell game.

bullshite. They are the main consumers of largesse. I see how they scam. They can pay more in taxes.

I recently retired and have paid more than my damn fair share of income taxes. I’d like to spend my savings, but now Louisiana wants more of it. I don’t trust a damn thing Landry or this legislative does.

The first thing that needs to be done is to have meaningful reform of the state government. Start there, end of story.
Like I said before, these tax “reforms” will have no positive impact on bringing or keeping businesses.

Sure. Give the government more money from the taxpayers. That's how you have a better life. Why should you spend it when the government can do it better?

You are getting an income tax cut.

Do you even know what's in the bill besides a 0.55 point sales tax increase?

But your income tax is going down.

You know the vast majority of people will end up paying more taxes via sales than they would pay with the income tax

Good. Too many people pay little to no taxes. The more consumption based, the better.

Agree 100%. Give me that 3% flat rate income tax in exchange for the increase in sales tax every time. In my mind, sales tax is the only “fair” tax, and I hate taxes.

We made the decision to leave again yesterday. Not immediately, but as soon as we tie up loose ends on some things here, we are gone.

I've told my story on here, but we essentially moved to Idaho for 5 years, got in a better spot mentally and financially, and decided to come back for family reasons thinking that the strides we made away would help us appreciate the fact that we were close to family and deal with the negatives that Louisiana brings. That has turned out to be both true and false. We are able to better deal with the negatives, but all the appreciation in the world can not turn what you have to deal with in this state into gold.

For people who have never left and cite family reasons and "your problems are still your problems elsewhere", that might be true. But it was false for us. We left and solved most of our problems by being in an environment with more positive people and wanting to do better because of it.

shite like this is horrendous. And even with the strides some areas of the state are making, this place is doomed. Largely due to a cohort of the population that play the victim and act like they're being held underwater when they really are stuffing their pockets with rocks and taking a dip.

The straw that broke the camel's back was really innocent. Went into Walgreens, waited in a 4 person line for 20 minutes while the employees essentially shite-talked us while mumbling (take a guess). I patiently got to the front, smiled at the lady, thanked her, and decided that we were done. I got to the car and told my wife that we were leaving as soon as the big thing that needs to be wrapped up is wrapped up.

We made a mistake thinking living in this state could be salvaged by family ties and a positive attitude. I made a mistake. And of course "Don't go to Walgreens! Of course that happened!" Where else am I to go? Walmart? Y-Not stop? CVS? The local grocery store that won't have what I need? It matters less about the store than it does about the population that feels like they've been "forced" to work these jobs.

Go elsewhere. Go really live somewhere else for years and then defend this state. You can't. When you take into account the gouging this states does of their citizenry and the absolute nothing you get in return, you realize quickly you're getting fricked. Between the sales tax, the insurance, the deposits to cut on utilities for the poor, the egregious speeding fines, the speed traps, and the frickery that goes on in city councils across this state, this low cost of living sure gets expensive.

Do you trust Louisiana gov.? Look at other states who do have high taxes, but run well. And have good education. It’s used properly. Money here seems to end up in pockets vs for us.

In the two biggest cities the minority pay for the majority. You have a demographics problem that will never change.

Maybe some of these people don’t have income to tax so that’s why they are mad.

Also that sales tax increase only goes to 2029. Low earners are getting a much bigger and hopefully permanent income tax cut than increase on sales tax.

Too bad they don’t fix the spend / welfare issue. It shouldn’t be a life long thing. At least they’ll have to pay that tax, too.

But overall the tax burden is going down.
They always say this. What about the 20%+ inflation tax…why not another 1%, hell why not 2% or 5%?

You think they didn’t factor in the addd benefit to raising sales tax during an inflationary period?

Just recently my co-citizens (moron majority) traded our deduction from Fed taxes paid for a lower top rate. That change costs me more.

Well leaving Louisiana won’t save you from inflation.

Here’s the deal. I don’t want my income taxed. Any move toward zero is good.

And if you cut taxes on businesses they can spend more in labor. Everyone wins.

I recognize that if you retired and have ONLY government retirement income …. No private pension, No 401(k), No IRA, No part-time work, No investments, No rentals, Nothing else at all…. then you could be paying a few hundred dollars of extra sales tax a year— IF everything you bought was subject to sales tax (which is impossible since it doesn’t apply to food, drugs, or utilities)

The overwhelming majority, even of retired people, get an income tax cut (that exceeds any sales tax impact)
— Doubling the private pension and 401k/IRA exclusion
— doubling the standard deduction to $25,000 an individual or $50,000 a couple
— Social Security and other government pensions remain fully exempt

Having skin in the game will make them less likely to vote for incompetent gibsmedat liberal politicians. It's better in the long term.
