You and I have a very different definition of many! Who said it wasn’t on me? Though no one should be a felon because of a plant!

It's more like lake charles/lafayette since they mostly facilitate oil and gas directly.
And to discredit the direction the state has turned in the IT industry is pretty asinine. At least a solid 10+ MSPs sprout up here yearly, not counting the public sector jobs that just keep getting bigger and bigger.
I hope your right for the states sake. Essentially LC and Laffy seem to be propping the state up.
and i know there are a lot more tech jobs flowing in and that has been a big win for the state but in general the state is in terrible shape economic wise.

the state averages 10 million from CAF alone. Are you telling me the fines do nto dwarf that? I gave you links.
Ok, how much relative to weed. To have a fine you have to have a convictins. Convictions are much less tha arrests. In order for the Sheriffs to be making money on weed arrests, there has to be a certain fine that links to a fund and goes back to the Sheriff. No su can provide that link. Is everyone just assuming all weed cases have a $500 fine that goes back to the arresting agency? It's broken up in the minutes any of theae attorneys should be about to detail the fines and fees at sentencing. The DAs office, courts, domestic abuse fund, court reporter, IDB get most of the money, not the arresting agency.

prolly not. But in general the majority of simple poss. charges are in larger cities and they are giving a summons for anything under 14g.
In the state anything under 14g is considered a misdomeanor now. Sure you can be arrested and if you are in like jennings, welsh, any small town along I-49 etc but most Weed charges are not there % wise.
We do agree that the law is complete and utter BS, the Sherriffs are power hungry assholes, you should have your record expunged etc.
BTW i hope you filed for your voting and gun rights restoration. If not and its been long enough...you should.

I agree, those instances suck and shouldn't be allowed but thats not the same as many posters were claiming on here earlier. They were just shouting out "FINES" as the reason the LA Sheriffs were against the bill. Those links arent proving law enforcement arresting agencies are getting tons of money from weed arrests via fines as some claimed.

Felony marijuana arrests happen everyday. To me that is “many!” Weed dealers still go to jail and prison.
Please do not try and be nice to me now after implying I’m an idiot for having a marijuana felony.

I assumed that pretty much every weed charge was like a traffic fine but for 300-500. If in 2016 there were ~15k poss charges...I assume they are just paying that and its split between the police and DA office in that district or where ever the Judge says.
I assume 30% atleast goes to arresting agency similar to tickets.
i mean you are talking 7.5 million on top of the 10 million from CAF. thinking in general the CAF+fines for drugs are atleast 30million per year in this state. Half is prolly weed. so 15 million per year across the state.
Its apparently enough for them to fight it.
Posted on 5/10/21 at 12:56 pm to lsu777
Your just talking possession charges. Trafficking and intent to distribute is where they make the “real money”! Also even if weed were legalized there would still be a black market.

well yea its still illegal. and you are looking at about an average of 5 intent to distribute convictions a day across the state. Thats not shite.
to me...thats a stupid reason to use to legalize and a stupid hill to die on.
the arguement should be fricking freedom, plain and simple.
second arguement should be that prohibition hasnt worked and has allowed the black market to thrive which in turn drives up violent crimes.
third arguement should be it is ripe for abuse in this state and has been abused and not to mention is used to target those in poverty and minorities at a 3 to 1 rate.

Even if it’s legal, I won’t be able to have 100 pounds in my house.

You should be able to grow your own plants too.
You try that now and louisiana steals your property

i didnt imply you were an idiot for having a marijuana felony. I could give two shits if you do or not and I promise it wouldnt deter me from hiring you.
I also wasnt trying to be nice. and your felony wouldnt deter me from hiring you but your shitty attitude would.
if you read anything I posted in this thread its that I think the law is bullshite and explained my reasons why.
you come off as bitter shite head who is jaded because they made a poor decision. i have made plenty of those, luckily it didnt affect the rest of my life and I grew from them. You should try to grow from them yourself.

Growing a plant =\= chopping down a protected plant.
No one is telling you that you can’t plant a redwood.
