Yet another antibody test that is tracking along with the other studies. This thing is completely widespread already.

quote:

from a collaborative scientific study that suggests infections from the new coronavirus are far more widespread - and the fatality rate much lower - in L.A. County than previously thought.

quote:

Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600.

Great, now if we could get some studies in states other than California so they’re actually truly meaningful.

Yep. The article says that, potentially, up to 440,000 residents of Los Angeles County have been infected. If you take that number and divide it by the number of deaths in LA County (600) you get a mortality rate of .13% - right in line with the common flu.

If these numbers are accurate, we shut down the country for nothing.

They did one in Chelsea, Massachusetts and found similar results.

Yeah, how much more of this sort of thing do we need to hear? This virus is extremely widespread and is not very serious to the overwhelming majority of people. We need a total reboot of our approach to this thing. Sweden had it right all along.

By Louisiana’s standards, a person who was 99 died from the coronavirus as opposed to, you know, being old as shite and it’s their time to go.

You’re blind and stupid if you don’t think a lot of this fear mongering and number cooking are products of political gamesmanship.
