It's not so much of an tradition as it is a habit.

It's just an everyday thing for me to come in and take my shoes of right there at the door.

We have a little church pew right by the door, that I use to put them on in the morning.

I'm not talking about you not wearing shoes in your own house, I'm talking about people who make guest take off their shoes before entering.

I hate shoes but would feel weird not having shoes on in any other house besides my own.

When my kids were crawling we did. Now that everyone walks we don't so much. I don't think it's weird though. Unless being clean is weird.

It is the smart thing to do health wise. Taken you shoes off before you enter and then wash your hand first thing, you prevent 90% of harmful germs from entering your home.

Huh, wth? I thought this was super common. Growing up, I remember most people doing this. It wasn't a hard and fast rule rule but people would always sit on their decks and take off their shoes and line them up.

Damn straight when I have a home, I'll have a shoes off policy. Don't have socks, I'll provide them.

This thread is a little surprising. I thought most people took their shoes off in the house. It tracks in shite and why would you need them anyway?

Have a buddy whose wife makes everyone take off their shoes because they have a toddler in the house, yet they have two dogs with dingleberries and who knows what else running around wild.

Some black families do this and they wear slippers around the house but call them "house shoes".

Just don't have carpet in your home. Problem solved. It's weird having Thanksgiving at the in laws and everyone is walking around in khakis, skirts and socks

I went to a friend's house the other day and they had just gotten new hardwood floors and they wanted me and my girl to take our shoes off. This was for dinner. With other couples. I was wearing loafers and no socks. I spent the rest of the evening walking around barefoot like a fricking Indian in a teepee.

So odd.
FLOORS ARE MEANT TO BE WALKED ON. THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR

Wife's nephew married a Vietnamese gal, and no shoes in the house is her/their custom, so we comply. A little weird at first, because our house is just as clean or cleaner without doing this.
