I don't understand how a company can have a sizable amount of money disappear and not be aware of it.
Smart embezzlers can be almost impossible to find.

I worked for a big corporation whose foreign subsidiary cooked the books.

It was discovered only after overseas tax authorities detected suspicious bank activity. The guy who ran the fraud killed himself soon after.

A family member had a POA manager who did in the condo association. Took a long time but they got back the 50K she stole.

Usually if it’s a woman who is embezzling from her employer, it’s a gambling problem.

Ehh. The office manager for my therapist got caught last year embezzling over 300k from her. She used the funds to buy side by sides, boats, and live high off the hog with her man. She's getting sent up for ten years. Finally got caught because another patient caught her. Super sad situation

Not embezzlement per se but I used to play basketball with a guy who as it turns out was running a ponzi scheme around “flipping properties”. He ended up scamming a bunch of the other guys in the basketball group.

It was a $12 million scheme and I think they only recovered $4 million. One guy told me that he invested 25k and only got 4k back. From what I understand, there were others that put six figures into the scheme. Sad situation for the ones who got scammed.

The government came and took land my grandparents business was on and it didn’t survive. Then later lost in a lawsuit over minor paper work. Government basically bankrupted my family.

But there is a highway there now. Prob littered with trash.

Office manager got company I worked for for about $150k about 30 yrs ago. Only recovered about $50k. I don’t think she spent a year in jail. The investigator resigned when she got out.
Devastating for the business. Within two years business was foreclosed and I was able to by it on the courthouse steps!

When I worked for the small bank in Tulsa the CEO/President came in my office and asked me to confirm embezzlement was occurring with one of the really favorable business and personal depositors.

Turns out I also knew the hot blonde who was embezzling. She and her roommate had been partying with me and my buddies for a couple months (roommate married and had kid by one of the running buddies eventually ). The girls were lucky they were hot, it’s the only thing kept them out of jail. The evidence was everywhere. She used the business to even pay her cable bill and car payments.
