I didn't say it was a generational issue, but if there is a generation that needs this the least, it is the current one. I don't know why some schools do it and some don't.

Yeah I've kind of told myself that the minute I have kids I get rid of social media.

And when that happens, I'm sure your perception on this issue and lots of others will change.

It will not. I do not fade easily on my viewpoints. My kid will think they're pointless as well one day. He will be busy working the coal mine anyway that day.

Perhaps one day. But not when he or she is in kindergarten hoping his or her parent shows.

I was chosen to count to 100 BY FIVES at my kindergarten graduation. I was always good at math.

And I got a banana split from theDairy Queen like place for my present. Life was good.

if not for familial requirements, i wouldn't have gone to any of my graduations (kindergarten, high school, undergrad, or law school)

However, those kids could not have cared less about the ceremony and my son repeatedly asked prior to today "why do we have to do this?" I didn't really have an answer.

Some care, some don't. I don't really think it is a big deal either way if your kid wants to miss it or thinks it is pointless.

have seen people posting stuff on facebook about graduations for other grades.

Here's the deal in South Louisiana Catholic Schools. There is a pre-k graduation. It's fricking adorable and signifies these tiny children making it to "real school." They feel very proud and appreciate the accolades. There is no kindergarten graduation. There is an 8th grade graduation signifying there transition to high school.

I have no problem with either.

If our fricking society gets any more "hey look at me" it may actually implode

Honestly, I had a ceremony like this in 1968 when I "graduated" from Kindergarten. It's a minor occasion that happens once.

If you're worried about the "hey look at me" stuff, look at the almost pathological need we seem to have to put on a pageant for our kids every birthday. And because everyone seems to do it, people feel guilted into continuing to do it. All the while, Chuck E Cheese is making out like a bandits and the kids start to feel as though the anniversary of their birth is akin to a holy day of obligation for all their friends and family.

That's what we have here. Pre-K graduation next week for my little dude so say goodbye to preschool and hello to real big-kid school, but no kindergarten graduation.

I'm pretty sure they don't do 8th grade graduation here though.

Your kid sounds anti-social. Which is a learned trait.

Maybe your answer could have been something like "Well, you made it through you first year of formal education. That's a big step son. You should enjoy it with your buddies and enjoy singing songs."

Seriously man. If your kid is asking "what's the point?" at 4 years old?

I graduated kindergarten in the early 80s and I am pretty sure we had some type of "graduation". Its fricking kids dude.. Its not like you are giving them all trophies for graduating kindergarten.
