OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The killer of a West Monroe two-year-old is up to be re-sentenced after he was set free in 2017. Eric Nabors was released after a Ouachita Parish judge lessened his charges.
Jemarion Jackson was murdered in his family's home in 2013. Police arrested his mother's ex-boyfriend in connection to his death. In the 2016 trial, a jury found Nabors guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentencing.
Jackson's mother, Nakiyah Clark, said she is finally glad to see justice coming for her son.
"Four years and seven months, that's too long," Clark said. "He beat and tortured my son as if he was an animal."
In 2017, Judge Larry Jefferson overturned the jury's verdict. He charged Nabors with negligent homicide, sentencing him to five years with credit of time served.
"That's not right for you to be the judge, jury, and execution of my child's life," Clark said. "I don't want to live my life in fear."
She said it was tempting to be outraged after learning Nabors was free, especially after he made a song about killing her.
"But I just thought to let God handle all of my problems because what good would it make if I did something to him and backdoored and went to jail," Clark said.
She, along with the District Attorney's office, filed an appeal to the judge's decision with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeals court overturned the judge's decision and reinstated the jury's.
"Justice is being re-served, and I'm glad," Clark said. "No more appeals, no more court dates, no more waking up questioning like 'How long is this going to take."
Clark said she now wants to spend her time fighting for justice for others going through the same battle she did.

Just search the judge’s name on Google.
He is an absolute frickup and should not be on the bench.

Judge overturned the jury’s verdict.
Without reading the article, My guess is the judges ruling was appealed and a higher court upheld the jury decision.

That’s what happened. I didn’t realize they could even do that though. I thought once you were declared innocent that’s it. Like if OJ went on tv the day after the he killed Nicole and said yep I did it they couldn’t overturn his guilty verdict (they’d get him for perjury but not murder), I guess that’s not the case..?

Is this the judge that retired a day or two later?

Janice Clark and Trudy White are telling him to hold their beers.

He wasn’t declared not guilty. Jury found him guilty of murder, judge overruled jury and lessened the charge and sentence.
He was never innocent/not guilty.
