On the other side of the coin, I was pretty surprised when I first learned that 'ducking the center' really is a penalty in real football.

Three of my neighbors ended up playing college football. I was severely outmatched to say the least.
tell me about it, one of my neighbors as a kid is in the NFL HoF, he used to kill everyone, even his own teammates sometimes, his brother, who is my age played in the league a couple of years too, there were some pretty good athletes from our 'hood

The pick up games we used to have were vicious. Some black kids decided to play with us one time and one ended up with a broken leg. They never played with us again. We would play anywhere. Neighbor’s yards were the best. They wouldn’t say shite to us.

This brings back good memories. We played flag football with socks hanging out our pockets.
We played full contact, no pads no helmets. EVERYDAY.
Seen plenty of broken noses, arms and torn up knees in the hood.

Do kids still play Smear the Queer?
Not unless they wanna risk that one kid saying "I'll be the queer, put it in my arse boys"
And in my day if you called a penalty while playing unorganized sports, your own teammates would kick your arse.
We used to play monkey ball on the basketball courts, and literally there was no such thing as a foul, guy jumped on your back and hit in you the face as you put a shot up? You should have passed .

I pulled all the padding out my cast and took it off so I could play football without hearing everyone complain about the hard cast on my arm. Thought I was the baddest dude in backyard football.
Then my arm healed crooked and the doctor had to break it and reset it without anesthesia and I cried like a little bitch. That shite was so painful.

What type of dick tackles his buds by the back neck collar? That's my question.

Virtually all of us have played touch football so we wouldn’t have to be tackled, and we’re picking on kids for calling horse collars?

I knew the meaning of neither word at the time.

I got my collarbone broken in backyard football and got made fun of for crying about it.

Went with several buddies to see a football movie one night my senior year of high school.
After the movie, about 11pm we decide to get some Mad Dog 20/20. We each get into a bottle of the mad dog and about an hour later decide to go to the high school field (we were all football players) and play a game of tackle football.
I was buzzed and had zero fricks to give. Very first play toss sweep, I was unimpeded and had taken off full spring as soon as dude said hike. Murdered my buddy and about knocked both of us out. My nose was bleeding from the hit, being buzzed I went full targetting mode with no helmet and zero fricks We called off the game after that.
It's not wise as an 18 year old to get lit on Mad Dog and play tackle football with zero fricks.

Should have gotten out there and showed them BAWS how we did it back in the day.
I remember it vividly. 5 Mississippi rush. Zone defenses were hard as hell to scheme against because of timing issues; and no one gave a frick about roughing any passer or defenseless player. No one called a penalty. Who did that? Interference was when you tackled the receiver before the ball got there otherwise it is free game for both for the ball.
I wish i was younger

We used to play a modified game - smear the queer. I guess that game doesn’t exist anymore. Definitely not calling a damn horse collar in it though.
