Honestly just saying “I’m going to shoot up a school/church/theater/etc” should warrant an investigation and misdemeanor at minimum, and a felony if it is proven to have been plausible. If it started to be taken more seriously, might help.

You did the right thing, and it either saved a life or taught a not funny kid a very valuable lesson about consequences.
