I was for years then my gf made me go to a doctor. He gave me a shot in the arse and a Script to Flonase and I haven't been stopped up once in two years.

Not sure what constitutes an actual addiction neurologically or physiologically, but I'd imagine any substance that a person feels dependent on -- especially a substance that is technically a pharmaceutical -- constitutes as an addiction.

Again, from an FDA standpoint or AMA standpoint, not sure where it falls but avoidance of the "rebound" is definitely fuel for addictive use.

Have you tried taking Benadryl at night? Maybe switch to some nasal spray that's just saline or moisturizing? Maybe some breathe right strips?

This.

If you can't stop it cold turkey take your bottle and dilute it in half. Next bottle dilute it twice as much....and so on. You can also try nasacort aq (it is a nasal steroid now OTC). Or you can go see an ENT and get your inferior turbinates reduced. You'll be a new person. Just don't get back on it ever

I was hooked on Vicks 12 Hour for a little over a year. I kicked it to the curb with the help of Allegra. You are going to have a couple of bad nights... your body will get used to not having it and it will adjust. Good Luck!

Well that's why you use distilled water and not water from the tap.

You are not supposed to use that stuff more than a few days. It actually gets worse when you use it often. Try breathe right strips.

Add regular saline to your afrin daily. As you dilute the nasal spray every day, your addiction lessens. Also, the saline will help with the stuffiness, and the dry throat. That's how I did it.

Get a Neti pot and a script for Flonase. Quit using the afrin and use the Flonase as directed and use the Neti pot to clean out when you're really congested. I used it every night for about a week when I quit the nasal sprays. It was a few years ago and I had bad allergies. Was using the stuff 2-3 times a day. Every morning when I got up and every night going to sleep and usually mid afternoon as well. It takes a few days to adjust but you will. And it is nice not waking up feeling like I need a squirt to breathe.

Affrin can cause physiological dependence, a physical addicition on the chemical substances. Just because it is not some fundamentally destructive behavior does not mean it is not a physical addiction.

Alcoholism, drug addiction, too frequent indulgers of aphrin, fatties...etc. all just engage in compulsive over consumption. Some (drugs and alcohol) have more significant negative consequences, but other compulsions can be likewise considerable.
