Key Fob Conundrum

My kid’s Key Fob died so when you pressed the start button it would say “Key Fob Not In Car”.
But if you press start, with the dead Key Fob, the car will start, explain that.
Anyway I put a battery in it and fixed it, but how did it know what I pushed it with ?

If it’s a ford they have a key inside the fob and a spot to place it to start the car.

When the key fob battery is dead the RFID transmitter doesn't work to use the proximity features, but when you place it in the correct spot the vehicle's sensor can read the chip and allow the start.

10-4 somehow the teenager knew this but not how to replace a battery in the fob .
I schooled him with knowledge again though
