I had coach Dunkin and coach Joe who had the RV and would bring us to Zephyrs games at UNO.

forgot the other coaches name.

Oh yeah and one year some guys from our neighborhood made a team, made our own uniforms and were the Wentwood Blue Knights sponsored by CiCis pizza.
We only won one game that year.

Sunbasket, to me it had an odd smell. Lovecchio's was one we went to a lot.
Back then a ten year old could go off on his bike all day, with no cell phone and go to K&B or Sunbasket for snacks then go to whoever had the newest NES game and chill. Now our girls ride their bikes in front the house and don't go to friends without discussing with the other parents. Odd how things change.

I knew nothing about any of this except that they run the Duncan Kenner stakes at fairgrounds every year.

Yep.

He was a jerk, though. Hate to have seen him as a stallion.

Family friends with the Lovecchio's. When I was 15, got arrested with Sal (who was 16) for stealing beer from his family's grocery store. Before closing, Sal put a case of beer behind the dumpster. Around midnight, I parked behind Lovecchio's and Sal went to get the beer. Silent alarms were activated and Kenner PD had spotlights and guns pointed directly at me … "Driver, show me your hands and exit the vehicle..." Had to call my dad at 1:00 AM to bail me out of jail and he wasn't to happy

Definitely remember the ice skating rink in Chateau and Sunbasket since I dated a girl who lived in CE. In the early 80's, we use to run beagles and rabbit hunt on the undeveloped land in Chateau Estates. Directly behind Jefferson Downs, in the Summer I use to catch garfish and sand sharks along the bike path. To kill time, we would climb the white wooden fence and watch the horses run along the backstretch.

Friends dad owned horses and 2-3 nights a week we'd go up to the clubhouse and bet on the races. I was 15-16 yrs old and didn't know how to read the Racing Form. They told me to bet $20 on every horse that Ricky Faul was riding. I'd box 3-4 horses and end up cashing a few tickets each night. FYI - I was born in 1968 and grew up behind Delta Playground. Most of my friends went to OLDP and later Rummel. I went to St. Martin's and my younger brother went to Holy Cross. Definitely had some great memories from my youth. Sadly, most of the places we visited and went to are all gone

It's tough getting older and watching the things we had go away to "progress."

An illustration, and I'm sorry to derail this thread, I find the loss of the stables saddening, too.
I am from the Westbank, and in a West Bank nostalgia group on FB. I was raised in the 70s and 80s. Anyway, there's a thread on there to "rep. your neighborhood grocery" and at least half of the comments are "Time Saver on the corner of..."

REALLY people? I'm old. At least one neighborhood grocery is still open and I still go there. A real one, family - owned for 85 years now.

Anyway, sorry to threadjack.

As a son of Ol Bob Bowers that would have been unlikely.
As a gelding impossible.

But he could run!

Yep
We had some real nice dirt bike tracks around Kenner back in the day. The best one being the “Power” track, underneath the power lines where Powere Blvd is now.
I was the first on the block with a 1974 CR 125 Elsinore. That think would fly.

The dirt tracks were great. Every once in a while a kenner cop would try to stop everyone, but they wouldn't follow you to the canal banks.
