In response to the failure by Ramelli Waste owner Bob Ramelli to remove his company’s trash
containers throughout the city, the company has been issued a summons in Kenner Mayor’s Court for
22,000 separate violations of Kenner’s litter law, Mayor Ben Zahn announced.

That legal action by the city of Kenner on behalf of all residents was taken earlier today.

“Many residents had trash in Ramelli cans that was not collected before IV Waste took over as the city’s
legal garbage contractor on May 1,” Mayor Zahn said. “No matter how Mr. Ramelli feels about losing the
contract, it is inconceivable and unconscionable to take actions that could create a health hazard for anyone.
I will not tolerate any city contractor treating the residents of Kenner in this way.”

So the old trash contractor who was fired for doing a, well, trashy job, has refused to pick up his old cans. He also got a court order preventing the new company from emptying cans that belong to his company. So the city is now citing the old company for littering by leaving the cans out there and not coming and getting them.

This is getting more and more... trashy.

I guess we know who's palms he forgot to grease. I wonder how long it takes him to remember.

Latoya can learn a thing from Zahn by seeing how to not let a company failure hold a city hostage.

Thats a great play.

However, since Ramelli did not leave the cans where they are at this time, I wonder if its basically just a nuisance thing he has to respond to.

Surely the contract stipulates how/when they would need to pick up the cans?

I also don't understand the desire to drag your own name through the mud and ruin chances of winning new contracts in the future.

Down here in St. Bernard we recently changed providers (ironically, also to IV Waste) but it wasn't nearly as scandalous... it was just the end of the contract and they signed a new provider.

Anyways, a few weeks before the new contract began, IV waste started dropping off the new cans. About a week later, Pelican started picking up their old cans, on the same day as your garbage day. Basically, they had trucks that would ride behind the garbage truck and pick up the cans. It took a while to get the new cans to everyone and the old cans from everyone, so in that meantime, the company picking up the trash just used whatever can, as it took a while to get them all replaced.

It was no big deal and life goes on.

Because Ramelli is the kind of person who thinks he will win this, and Kenner will be forced to fire IV Waste and go back to Ramelli. Failing that, he thinks he will be about to get a ton of cash out of Kenner for breaking the contract. He's willing to drag his name through the mud because he thinks he's gonna get paid.

Ramelli was horrible service but something stinks with this whole ordeal.
IV has been good so far by my house. They move the cans out of the way to the side, they never leave loose trash behind and their trucks look a lot better.
But I cant get over how this whole thing appears shady the way the contract got pulled.

The trash business is full of, shall we say, trashy characters.

Zahn kinda has a Trump-ish, I'll do what needs to be done, and the hell with the consequences, way about him. Dumping Ramelli and getting a better provider in IV Waste is probably in the best interests of the city of Kenner. Zahn probably broke protocol and contract terms in doing so, and it will likely cost Kenner some money in the end, because they will have to settle with Ramelli or Zahn will be found in breach of the contract for not properly handling grievances / ending it.

If Zahn followed protocol / contract it probably would have taken a few more months but it probably would have worked out better in a legal sense. But Zahn has to listen to the complaints and decided to act faster.

You should see where they put them.

The made a big pile of them in Terrebonne Parish where their headquarters are. It is right off Hwy 311 near Coburns. I guess that is what happens when you lose the garbage wars. Piles and piles of garbage cans with your name on it. You keep them there until you outbid someone else and use them for that area.

Hi neighbor! Much better service than what we had down here in da parish! It was not all that bad but Pelican would leave a lot of trash on the street that IV is picking up now. They also pick up their old cans (from their old contract), Pelican cans, and their new cans. Yeah I still have all three.

The Kenner deal is very comical and entertaining to follow.
