I wonder how many med students at Tulane are homegrown.

They teach yall how to read in georgia?

They don't have my residency in LA so I left. Easy choice. Want to come back though but not many jobs.

The looming budget concerns are keeping a lot of students from even considering the LSU system. Not to mention that the hiring freeze has made it very difficult for the LSU to be able to be competitive with hiring and retaining top notch faculty. The healthcare training system is in a bad way in Louisiana, much due to our dumbass politicians.

LSU is not in jeopardy of being competitive unless they allow themselves to be in any part of the University. This talking point is so overblown it's approaching absurdity. The doors are not about to shut, football season isn't going to be cancelled. Enough.
But back to the OP, I went to Seattle last fall to visit my SiL. They had a party up there and I spent a good hour trying to explain to their friends why a state as rich in natural resources and industry like LA was so broke. Now that area is pretty Blue, so it's hard to say "the takers out number the producers, so politicians cater to the takers while lining their own pockets and the takers look the other way 'so long as they get theirs' and stuff" without sounding like an a-hole. But I think I mostly succeeded.
But isn't that mostly the truth?

This is overblown. Many of those Louisiana docs will return after their residency. It has less to do with funding of healthcare than prestige of program at various schools. Is LSU not filling their residency slots? I doubt it.

Not many jobs? What job?

You do realize this is just residency and most want to return to LA after that? Most like the idea of moving away for 3-5 years for some things new and then returning to work
Link?
I don't want to go back. LA is fricked.
You don't count as "most." I've got friends who did exactly what he was referring to. Residency at Birmingham, MUSC, St. Louis, NYC then back to LA.

You used the most extreme example possible...
Lots of areas offer a comparable and often better quality of life with higher pay.

there is no reason for anyone to really want to stay in the state. It's FUBAR. The NOLA is getting worse in the sense of priorities. We are more f'n concerned about which statues are up rather than stopping the rampart violence.
You know why i left this state? Bc it's still stuck in a period of bullshite and feelings. At least if i'm going to deal with this PC bullshite, i rather do it in a city like Los Angeles where at least the women are pretty, there is shite ton of stuff to do, and so is
Don't get me wrong, i love NOLA until the day i die.....but this city is going the way of disney world and no sir, i don't like it.

We're in this boat. My wife left Louisiana for Residency.
Now that we've been out a couple years, we've realized quality of life in NC is light years ahead of Louisiana.
Family may eventually bring us back, but it isn't the no brainer that we thought it would be after residency.

they said can be a tough sell when medical students are being courted by residency training programs in other states where healthcare isn't such a constant feature on the budgetary chopping block.
This is what happens when you illegitimately, constitutionally protect a bunch of over-the-top discretionary spending.

Agreed. Most people want to be back where their families are regardless of program prestige and budgetary concerns.
My fiance came back to LA for residency, her co-residents are mostly out of state/out of country. She'll be happy to see more locals in the program.

I would happily take a hardworking FMG over some of the shite that comes out of US medical schools.
