Channel 2 and 13 are both showing temps in Katy in the mid 20's.

Everything is wrapped at my place in old Katy. Will probably leave the cabinet doors open tonight so the house heats circulates under the sinks

My dads pool in cinco it running wide open right now ... it's got one of those temps sensors on it as well.

No running water for us thou

I can't speak on pool pipes but as far as house plumbing, if your house isn't raised and has insulation you should be fine. I've only had to run water in one house in college. It was close to 75 years old, raised, and had no insulation.

Yep. I just always look at that pool equipment and get skeered. But it is running and the absolute lowest that pool has gotten is 48 degrees I believe. I know because I had some liquor and got in it.

How many of you have a water heater in your attic?

That's pipe busting cold no?

I have my screwdriver and crescent wrench ready. One of the last things before I go to bed will be to cut the water at the main by the street.

Around 5 or 6 years ago people were having pipes burst in their attics. I think it was 25 or 27 degrees for over eight hours that time.

I'm not taking any chances and will sleep soundly tonight.

Has to get a lot colder than that before pipes start bursting around here.

Which I guess how your house it built might have something to do with it.

I have my outdoor faucets covered with those foam things you can buy at Lowes since before the first freeze of the year anyway.

But we don't leave cabinets open or water running unless it's down in the low teens.

Better safe than sorry though.

What?

You've never heard of people leaving the cabinet doors open under the sink or wherever there are pipes?

Look 8 posts above your last one.

As long as it's running I would think you are okay. Don't let the temp fool you though. That sitting water is colder in the exposed pipes by the pump and will burst.

Haven't heard about that one. However, I do fill the bathtub with water before going to sleep if it's a hard extended freeze. You can use a bucket to pour water into your toilet tank if the pipes get frozen and at least have a working toilet.

that is a trick I learned while living in Colorado...after not being able to use my bathroom sink for nearly a week after the pipes froze.

now, anytime the temp drops below about 25 in my area, I do this for any exterior wall with a cabinet on the inside. it costs nothing and can save you a good bit of inconvenience.

Nope and it's currently 5 degrees outside. Guess they build for cold weather here though.
