Not the point at all. The best comparison I can give would be buying a self driving car but never learning how to actually drive.

That's a lot of electronics to leave outside in the rain / cold / heat. What could possible go wrong?

if i could buy a gas powered self driving car id have one right now. nothing worse than wasting time driving if I could be doing something more productive or resting while driving. same concept as this pit.

Does Kamado Joe do a backdraft fiery explosion when you open the lid like the BGE does?

I'd just like to point out for the hundredth time in this thread that you can do both of these things with this grill. You don't have to do electric all the time. You don't have to do traditional all the time. And you can toggle back and forth during cooks.

I understand all of that. I fully realize that the grill in the OP is not a pellet grill. This thread quickly became about electronically controlled smoking, of which pellet grills are a part of.

This has to be the absolute dumbest thread ever. And that says a lot.

Who cares if someone’s electronic grill breaks and they can’t grill because they don’t know how to start a fire with a stick and bow then go kill a bison with a spear and clean it with a knife made out of the jaw of your previous kill?

“Oh, my grill broke and I can’t cook? Guess I’ll just cook on my stove. Or pick up chipotle…”

wow this thread fell of the rails........

who gives a shite if you use a controler.... most everyone uses them nowadays. hell people that do the snake method you could lump into that catagory. anything to reduce the amount of time you personally have to tend fire. We are human, arent we? We use tools dont we.... GTFO with being derogatory to people using electronic computers. You are not producing anything better tending your charcoal fire every hour.

I used to be a purist.... The heirarchy is Stick burner->Charcoal with wood chunks -> pellet -> Electric.

But after i dumpster dived an electric smoker and replaced the element for 15 buck, and used it to smoke sausage, i got to say.... the ease of using an electric or pellet, and ill lump the computer controlled charcoal, Make me feel that there is NO reason to use a stick burner, unless you just like doing it...because they do not produce THAT much better meat than the others when comparing the ease of use.

Not true in my experience. My friends that have pellet grills admit to me the product is not as good. I myself have had food off of a pellet smoker many times, and while not as good as a traditional smoker, it was decent.

If you want to invest 2k in a computer smoker, by all means, go for it. It’s your money. But the notion that it’s “less work” is absurd. I don’t tend to my BGE any more than you would tend to a pellet smoker.

My comment was focused on a charcoal fire controlled by a computer and fan or manually with your vents...

So ill say again... your BGE smoke brisket is no better than my PrimoXL with a heatermeater smoked brisket.

And a computer controlled kamado smoker has WAY better control of the fire than you do. Plus if i want to bump up the temp to something specific, its easy, you need to go play with the vest for 15 mins to be sure you arent heating it up too much.

did you not read my posts earlier? I said if you already have a kamado no reason to get another one... BUT if you dont and want to smoke on it, which MOST people buy a controller, because its easy, cool to have a graph, etc., this is an all in one package.

I vote you just leave the discussion. Shouldn't you be tending a fire anyway?

There’s nothing to lose. This is all opinion. I’m just tired of arguing with a bunch of Gen Z’ers.

What’s next? Are we gonna have smokers with built in screens with your Instagram feed so you can go 5 minutes without getting bored?

in that same vein, it's ludicrous to pretend you got smoking skillz when the stupid computer made it. Stop calling it "the hobby" or trying to impress people when a computer (like the one in your microwave and oven) made the brisket for you.

If you use an oven do you not have cooking skills, because the oven kept itself at a constant temperature?
