You do know that this movie was based off of what actually happened to Kumail Nanjiani, right? He actually was briefly disowned by his family for dating a white chick and being an atheist. I don't see the fricking problem here if it actually happened.

Would a romantic comedy about a white family forbidding their son to marry a black woman be made?
Never heard of this one?
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
Black man meets his white girlfriend's family. They don't approve. This movie was made in the 60s no less.
It isn't a black woman and a white man, but this combination was much more controversial back then.

The premis is a true story and most white families don't want their kids marrying non-whites. I fail to see an issue here.
If you think this only applies to white parents then you're being ignorant.

There's a newer version with Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac. Not an award winner but entertaining

Is this the thread where white guys whine about how mistreated they are?
Wait, that's every thread.
lacour, I coined it; the Faux Racial Grievance Complex, aka FRGC.

he fact that the plot is accepted as being funny and not racist shows that society (of all races) sees white people as superior, even if it's subconscious.
Society is steadily pushing back on this and continually showing the fallacies, falsehoods, and downright lies in this line of thinking. The more society moves this needle, the more they will undo this subconscious though. You're seeing it in the younger generation. Slowly but surely. It will be interesting to see what the US is like in 50 years.

It should be very offensive to minorities that white liberals basically defend them out of pity. It makes them feel morally righteous to defend and help out the poor little minorities. They look down on them and feel superior like people in our country might feel about indigenous people still living in huts in the Amazon. Like a college kid who goes to Africa and spends time with a tribe there and takes pictures showing how righteous they are to post on Instagram.

Lots of things "actually happen". I bet lots of white families have gotten pissed and disown their kid if they go outside their race. Let's make some good comedies about them. Kinda annoyed with all this stuff. Just treat people like people.
Listen to Morgan Freeman's advice.
