How big is Shell convents refinery compared to XOM BR’s refinery?

It's a boutique refinery compared to Exxon in Baton Rouge or Marathon in Garyville.

But it's big enough to really hurt when it closes. It will likely reopen in a few years under a new buyer, but it's not going to be pleasant for St. James, Ascension, and the New Orleans-Baton Rouge area. When demand picks back up, the country will feel the pain of losing that refining capacity if it doesn't come back online quickly.

It's needed to diversify for 35 years.

It went from predominantly agriculture to predominantly agriculture and oil/gas over the 20th century.

That's diversified, right?

In all seriousness, if they can run a refinery along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, they can also build cars, battery packs, airplanes, tractors, or other durable goods. There are plenty of rail, water, and highway links in that stretch.

the ole road, rail, seaport, airport that was supposed to be built in St James Parish 25 years ago.

Sad that Louisiana politics crushed it.

Most refineries in LA put into pipelines that send gas and diesel up through the east coast.

Or good that the tax payers didn’t get fricked once again on another economic development boondoggle.

Ou record on spending money for infrastructure investments/ improvements pretty much sucks.
