I paid 41 for a limited Tacoma 4x4. Drove it for 8 months and hated it. Lost my arse and traded it in for another f150. And whoever said they hold they value they do not if you buy new and sell within a few months, my mistake.
For 41 you can get a brand new fully loaded xlt

The Taco is just a lot less truck for the money.

You overpaid. Picked up a new 2019 Limited 4x4 with bed liner and torneau cover for $36.5k two years ago. Pretty sure I could sell it for at least what I paid.

2020 tundra also has remote start on the keyfob..press lock 3 times and on the 3rd time hold it down until the lights blink twice
Can you turn the Toyota’s on or off from an app on the phone?
That’s something else I love about the Tacoma, it’s easy to upgrade. For less than $500 I was able to install a remote start (with phone control) and tailgate lock. Both bought from vendors on TW.

Should have bought a Highlander.
There can be only one.

$1000 rebate plus dealer cash.. Late in the model year. Also, the invoice was only $37.8.

Don’t buy the sissy city version with all the chrome.

I'm confused as to why anyone would buy a limited or sport over an offroad.

I agree.
Off road capability is the primary appeal of the Tacoma. If you don’t need that, there are far better choices that offer more comfort for long distance driving. It’s honestly not a great vehicle beyond off road capability and reliability.

Some people really want the nonfunctional scoop that blinds the shite of you unless you put a sticker on it.
Suspension on the sport is better for just driving around town too. Lots of people buy it without wanting to off road. My 09 was a base version, worked fine for me as I wanted a smaller truck and didn’t tow. Needed the bed for track motorcycle transport.

I hated my long commutes in it. But when you get in the canyons of iraan tx, you want something that won't break

What is the best midsize truck if not the Tacoma? Is there any with a significantly better MPG?
Posted on 2/3/21 at 7:58 am to Ssubba
I'd suspect the colorado/canyon diesel are more comfortable and get better mpg, but they are probably in full size truck price territory

I would love a zr2 duramax. But the interior looks so poor i couldn't do it

The 2020+ drivers seat is much improved with all the automatic adjustments they added. I’m quite comfortable in mine. A lot of people add spacers to the earlier models and find it better for comfort.
The TSS jerkiness doesn’t bother me much. I love being able to set my cruise and not get mad when some butthole is too slow. Just set and forget is nice.

How tall are you? I'm a little over 6'2", and I have never been able to get comfortable in a Tacoma without moving the seat nearly all the way down and back. I end up feeling like I am sitting on the floor. And the backseat is then nearly useless at that point. I can get comfortable in a Frontier, Colorado, and Canyon with no issue.
Not saying automatic seat adjustments wouldn't help the Tacoma's issues. But they need a cab that's about 3" taller (floor to ceiling) and another inch or 2 longer. That would help make it feel more like a truck with an upright seating position rather than having your legs sprawled out in front of you like in a sports car.
Some folks put a lot of miles on these trucks. Some interior comfort would be much appreciated. I think the new Nissan Frontier might be the GOAT small pickup. It comes out on Feb 4th. They are going to put all of the comfort and convenience features of the Titan in the smaller Frontier, which already has a more usable-sized cab than the Tacoma. I also think their 3.8L V6 is much better than the Toyota 3.5L V6. It certainly has more power with similar fuel economy.
The Colorado has the perfect sized cab, but it also doesn't have the fully automatic adjustable seats with this generation. I like their 3.6L V6 okay, but the one to buy is the diesel with the 6 speed. The Toyota update from a couple of years ago gave the Tacoma a nicer dash and safety suite though. The Colorado is quickly becoming the oldest feeling mid sized truck, next to the Tacoma.

I think the current generation of Tacoma is great but not as good as the previous generation. For what you get, I think they are overpriced but that's not to say they are unreliable or don't perform as intended. I've seen some for sale up here in Colorado for $50k plus. You can get a lot more out of a full size truck for that price.

When Im paying 45k for a mid size truck, I expect it to have AT LEAST comparable features to the full size trucks. Instead, you get around half of the features, and lets be honest, that 3.5 engine and transmission aren't that reliable .
I agree in expecting all of the full sized truck amenities in a smaller package for $45K.....but I disagree on the engine. I don't think any of the mid sized truck engines are unreliable with the possible exception of the 2.3L turbo 4 cylinder used in the Ford Ranger.
The Frontier 3.8L V6 is fairly new, but it's a VQ based engine so I'm sure it's fine. The 3.6L V6 in the Colorado had some teething issues until they changed the timing system in 2014 (before they even started putting them in the Colorado). All the 4 cylinder naturally aspirated options available from Nissan, Chevy, and Toyota are weak but reliable. The 3.5L Tacoma engine may not be as bulletproof as the old 4.0L V6, but it's a reliable motor. Cabbies use that engine in Camry's and Siennas and run them for several hundred thousand miles of hard use.
I give the Tacoma bonus points for having a manual transmission even though the 3.5L V6 is a little underpowered for a double cab 4x4 truck - and feels so when mated to the automatic transmission.
You'd better like the 3.5L if you are a Toyota fan. Rumor is that the next gen 4Runner, Sequioa, and Tundra are all getting a turbocharged variant of that engine instead of the 5.7L V8.
