Totally get that, but used 3 for illustrative purposes.
Not that you're looking at parent hood this way, but know at least that you'll have your independence back sooner because of the twins than if you had 1 then the other

You would be very surprised at just how many couples face fertility issues. Not just your typical couples(or woman) in their mid to late 30s having issues....but younger couples.
I've been reminded several times in my life what happens when I try to "plan out" how my life turns out.

My triplets are 2.5. The first 6 months can be really tough. Get them on a schedule and keep them on the same schedule. You don't want babies sleeping at eating at different times.
Congrats

Check out Costco. Their Kirkland signature diapers and wipes are good quality and they are a good deal. Costco also usually carries Carter's brand kid's clothes. Carter's is also good quality clothing and lasts.
You're going to find that you rely on your Wife a lot. Bathing two babies really goes so much smoother with two people. Same for diaper changes.
Breastfeeding two at the same time is challenging to say the least, but my sister breastfed twins. (No pics.) Save the $ you'd spend on formula. You will definitely be needed to help position the infants and burp them once they finish eating.
When things get rough, i.e. Fussy babies, Hopefully you two can take shifts so one of you gets sleep.

Surprise identical twins here. What fricked up the initial fun was the sonogram operator missed diagnosed Monoamniotic twins.....50% chance of dying in utero. 2 weeks later maternal-fetal doc confirmed it was NOT mono twins.
It was amazing, scary, TIRING.....Godspeed.

If it is, he will have two people who will love and CARE for him forever especially when he gets old. If it is two boys they will see him at the holidays
ETA: hyperbole of course
I knew these fraternal twins in college and they had to be costing their dad at least 5K per month. Two car payments w/ insurance, two apartments because they refused to live with each other or anyone else, two sets of bills, both were in sororities, neither worked, both partied like Vodka Sam and both were always shopping online.

My wife and I are going through this. She is 28 and I am 33. She's got PCOS. We had several miscarriages after IUI, and tomorrow morning we are going in for a second try at IVF. I don't think I can handle what it will do to her if it doesn't work again; it's really starting to take a toll on her.

We had "surprise" twins. They ended up being our 4th and 5th girls. When they were born our girls ages were 6, 5, 1 and the twins. Life was unbelievably hectic for a good while. We ended up building another house for more space. We are incredibly blessed and I wouldn't change anything. The twins are now freshmen in high school. My oldest is married and in dental hygienist school. Our next is in 2nd year of college. Middle is a soph. They're all incredible young ladies. My wife is a nurse and went back to work about 2 or 3 months after they were born. I had to get all 5 up, dressed, fed, and dropped off to their schools etc. Busy doesn't begin to describe our mornings. I find as a parent, you adjust and do whatever it takes to take care of your family. You will too. You'll look back one day and see how awesome it all was.

But the odds are higher having miscarriages before 12 weeks.
But some people don't mind sharing that experience (should it happen) with loved ones and friends and family.
Again, each to their own.

I hope everything works out ok and a healthy pregnancy is in the very near future.

You will be better off with one crib for a while. Remember they are together in the womb and being separated may cause some anxiety.

With a 3 year old already in the nest, Panda Spouse and I had surprise twins. Scared the crap out of us. Walked around in shock for weeks. Extremely difficult pregnancy. They didn't sleep for 4 years. yep. years. cried all the time (us too). But you know what? We stuck together, we were kind to each other, we put one foot in front of the other, when one was too exhausted to move the other picked it up and we got through it. Once they settled in it has been the ride of our lives and all 3 are outstanding young adults. Tell yourselves you can do it, accept help and support when offered, commit yourselves to their wellbeing and take good care of each other. Totally completely worth it. Good luck man!

I have 8 year olds, boy and a girl. They are pure hell until they get to 4 years old. The main thing is get them on a schedule together if not you and your wife will go slap arse crazy.
But they are great when they get older because they always have each other to be around and play with.

Congrats! Our twin daughters are 17. Hard at first, easier later (always a playmate around). If both girls, when they get older they are pretty much protected from the cattiness of teenage girls because they will always have each other to fall back on. Good luck!

Congrats, good luck and be very aware of twin to twin transfusion syndrome.
