I think my favorite part of the scheme is where he wanted to look all heroic by fighting back by setting up the scene in front of a camera, but the camera was facing a different direction.
The cops were probably tipped off to the lie by the fact that he pointed out "oh, it should have been captured on the camera there."

Is it possible the city/state doesn't let his legal team play any games?
This is a big time story that's attempted to paint nearly half the country a certain way, and made Chicago look worse than it is.
Seems like they have him dead to rights. The only thing that a plea bargain would do for the city/state is save them the money of a trial. It helps Smollett way more. It's not like they've built a flimsy case against him.

People have slam dunk cases against them all the time and they plea it down. They have stacks and stacks of cases with more piling up every day.
It helps him lower the charge, that's it. Whether it's a misdemeanor or class 4 felony this idiot will not go to jail.
We need the feds. Then prison time is a real factor.
