Here is the law
Any person "who is in a place where he or she has a right," including a public space, does not have an obligation "to retreat" if faced with a real or perceived threat and "may stand his or her ground and meet force with force."
During criminal court proceedings, a judge or jury can't consider the "possibility of retreat" as a factor in determining whether someone lawfully used force in self-defense.
No one acting in self-defense under these laws can be civilly prosecuted for the use of force, deadly or otherwise.
That is why it went to trial.
So did he have cars in front of him at the time? Could he have drove off?

That's not the part that's in question dude. It's about whether or not McKnight posed a threat.

The second JM left his car he was a direct threat,how was Gasser supposed to know what was about to happen ? he had no idea if JM was armed. Gasser by no means had to try and run, this was all on JM, Gasser will not do any time for this, he at that point was the victim, JM let his emotions get the best of him and it cost him his life.
