Wrong. What's a sad situation is that people think that what appears to be a verbal altercation entitles one party to pull out a gun and murder the other person.
It was a verbal altercation...until Joe decided to change the scenario by introducing some nonverbal communication of exiting his vehicle and approach the door/window of the other driver.
Joe escalated it at that point- choosing to leave interpretation of his escalation to the other party. Was Joe expecting that his escalation was going to end it? Or was it foreseeable that the other driver might also choose to escalate after perceiving Joe’s escalation as a threat of serious bodily injury?

Glasser's word says it was.
It all depends on what can be proven about what mcknight did when he got out. It's clear from this latest article the state is going to try to paint Glasser as a road rage hot head with that 2006 incident.
quote:
Mr. Gasser said he became irate and engaged in a “verbal altercation” with the football player. When they stopped next to each other at a red light, Mr. McKnight got out of his car and approached Mr. Gasser’s car window. Mr. Gasser then pulled out a handgun from between his seat and the console and shot Mr. McKnight, Sheriff Normand said.

You are correct. Just presenting one possible scenario.

I've clearly stated that if he reached in, the shooting was justified. Nothing in any article indicates that was the case.
You only think I'm biased because you disagree with me.
my post above proves they didnt just "pull up" to the light together. idk where the picture is but im sure you have seen it and have access to it.

you are taking this media article as fact
Most of what I posted was straight from the sheriff's mouth.

Race and notoriety unfortunately has more to do with this than the actual facts.

Just looking at the pictures, they werent just "stopped" next to each other at a stop light. There was one particular car that looked aggressively parked out of a lane.
Pretty sure it's a turning lane with McKnight's car. Also, I'm not sure how much his narrative of McKnight following this guy came to be. At best they were both engaged in the ongoing pursuit of one another.
The facts of the case are pretty straightforward. The case should hinge on whether or not McKnight was attempting to enter the vehicle.

No, they brought this to trial due to the current public climate.

Doesn't mean we should add to it. Given what we know about Gasser and the uncertainty of the actions at the window, I'd like to think this would go to trial if it was two black men or two white men too.

Um I have.
All you have said is Joe was just standing outside his window has yelling and thats not a fact, thats an assumption.

Please post a fact that refutes this. Any other scenario would be an assumption because this is the only thing that has been said.

Pretty sure it's a turning lane with McKnight's car.

This

ETA:
BTW doesnt Gasser look like, pre stroke, Randy Travis.

I'm going to make a guess that the body is what they're covering and that they would not move the body as it's a possible crime scene. That body is not by the driver's door if that is the case.
I understand that it's possible that McKnight moved before he died but he did suffer fatal wounds so depending on where he was shot he may not have been able to move.

In order to be
He had to first
That's what I've been saying
The trial will find out exactly what happened other than "approached window and yelled."
I thought the same. It's uncanny.

You're in your vehicle....and the dude is at your passenger window. With your window up and door locked...what is he going to do?

The window was down
Which is what I said further on in my statement. If he felt threatened with a man approaching his vehicle his first response should have been to drive off at that point...not shoot someone. It's not like there wasn't several seconds that passed before he made a choice to shoot him. I don't know if that comes into play in Louisiana, but some states make the use of lethal force unlawful if you were not in eminent danger/didn't have an alternate. Granted once it gets to point when someone is halfway in your vehicle....that is the only option. However it seems there would be some charges brought upon him once proven innocent of murder, for the road rage/altercation. I do think forensics will be what proves this situation one way or the other.

I mean, if someone is following you for miles because you pissed them off while driving, catches up to you at a red light, gets out of their car, and comes up to your open window, you have to start thinking they mean business.
That’s quite a big assumption you were making there. That McKnight was following him. Why are you not assuming he followed McKnight?
