No you just mad. You just mad that Joe McKnight got shot, But you're not taking into account his actions. It's a sad situation but you want to paint the shooter as a murderer right now because he shot Joe McKnight football star.

Wrong. What's a sad situation is that people think that what appears to be a verbal altercation entitles one party to pull out a gun and murder the other person.

You just chased this guy from The Bridge down General Degaulle and down Behrman Highway. Do you think Joe got out the car to tell the guy his tail light was broken? If someone is chasing me for miles and then approaches my vehicle at first opportunity, that mother f***** is getting shot.

You're in your vehicle....and the dude is at your passenger window. With your window up and door locked...what is he going to do? If he attempts to break window, then you shoot him. If you roll your window down, your right to shoot him just got a lot more difficult to prove....as is the case here.

That doesn't sound good for gasser and it's out of his own mouth. If he just shot him as he walked up, it's murder.

I'm not so sure about that. Getting out of your car to confront the guy kinda makes you the real aggressor, right?

That snippet leaves out a lot of important details.

This case is going to hinge on the racial makeup of the jury.

I wondered how long it would be before someone played the race card.

If he shot him as he approached the car, he's fricked.

But yeah there should be more to the story coming out in the trial.

You think the racial makeup of the jury won't be a possible factor in this?

But if Joe was simply standing there yelling and making no attempt to reach inside the car or anything,
why are you assuming this?

Maybe. If he was shot while walking up to the car and saying "I'm gonna kill you, mother fricker", it might change some things.

A lot of assumptions are being made. I mean, none of us know what actually happened, right? It's all conjecture in this thread.

Mr. Gasser said he became irate and engaged in a “verbal altercation” with the football player. When they stopped next to each other at a red light, Mr. McKnight got out of his car and approached Mr. Gasser’s car window. Mr. Gasser then pulled out a handgun from between his seat and the console and shot Mr. McKnight, Sheriff Normand said.

Because I'm not going to add something in that isn't written there?

Here are some facts

quote:

Normand laid out the basic facts of how McKnight and Gasser engaged in a protracted road-rage incident, starting on the Crescent City Connection bridge, down Gen. DeGaulle Boulevard, right on Behrman Highway and to a stop at the corner of Holmes Boulevard. It was McKnight who got out of the car first, and approached Gasser's car, Normand said.

quote:

"In this state, whether we like it or not, we have a very forward-leaning stand-your-ground, self-defense, justifiable homicide laws, however you want to refer to it," Normand said.

Clearly they felt the interaction at the window wasn't a cut and dry stand you ground case as implied in your post and felt they had enough evidence to bring this to trial.

Come on, man. It's not hard to figure out.

I don't care about Joe McKnight. I didn't know him, he played for teams I didn't care about.

I'm looking at this objectively while as evidenced by your posts, you're making it a white vs black issue.

dude if you think he is being one sided, you are being the same thing just on the other side.

I've clearly stated that if he reached in, the shooting was justified. Nothing in any article indicates that was the case.

You only think I'm biased because you disagree with me.

It shouldn’t. The case should be decided by the letter of the law. I’m a white man but would have no problem sending the defendant to prison if it’s proven he was trigger happy. McKnight was a dumbass for getting out of his car in the first place but that doesn’t mean he deserved to die. If, however, it’s established that he acted in a way to cause the defendant to believe his safety was at risk, then I would have no problem exonerating the accused.

Sheriff Normand said the confrontation began after both drivers were driving erratically, cutting each other off and zipping in front of each other, according to Mr. Gasser and witnesses.

Id be willing to bet Gasser didnt say this. But this article is painting this as an admission.

Just looking at the pictures, they werent just "stopped" next to each other at a stop light. There was one particular car that looked aggressively parked out of a lane.
