Julia Tutwiler dorm implosion

This morning they imploded the 13 story dorm that was next to Bryant Denny. Video is kinda long, of course it happens at the end of the video.
Kinda impressive to take it down with the new Tutwiler dorm right next too it. Not much room for error…
They used more than 500 pounds of explosives.

They posted an 11 minute video for something that took 15 seconds...

It always makes me uneasy seeing that happen so close to other buildings. If I was in one of those buildings I'd always wonder if those explosions caused some sort of structural damage. I know it would be entirely unwarranted concern, but I'd still have it.

That was impressive. I'd hate to have to sweep up afterwards

They could’ve just flown an old crop duster into it and saved all that money on explosives

They also imploded another dorm a few years ago (on July 4th as well). I was closer to that one and the explosive shockwave was impressive.
The new Tutwiler will house about 1200 girls at a time. And cost $130 million, if there is anything they know how to do it’s spend money. Guess that’s why tuition is so expensive.

Any time a 60s era building is imploded, the area's beauty immediately improves exponentially.

Jet fuel can’t melt steel

Tuition is so expensive because it’s paid by government loans. The colleges are getting their money regardless so why not keep artificially hiking up tuition prices?

Was sitting in my backyard drinking coffee and reading when I heard it this morning.
