Judd Grambling...White Man?

I was just reading a historical article that touched on the naming of the area now known as Grambling, La.
Judd Grambling opened a saw mill in the area. The railroad put a station there and named it after Judd. And the rest is what we know.
Anybody know if Judd was a white dude? I can speculate, but I cannot find anybody that knows.

The wikipedia page LINK for Grambling says he was white.
