I remember seeing one right off 84 in Frogmore on my way to Pineville. At least I think it was an Indian mound.

I didn't know that we had a museum in the courthouse and that's in harrisonburg. Fort hill and the graveyard is all that's there.

There are mounds scattered all over Concordia parish. One at the end of horseshoe lake.

Frogmore
Pretty sure that’s a cattle mound built to wait out backwater flooding, during the last 150 years or so.

Yep, this one is currently the second-tallest in the US. But it is also a replica of the original mound. The pile of dirt in Jonesville hasn't progressed much in the last few years. I'm interested to see if they'll be able to raise the revenue needed to complete it. Jonesville isn't exactly a wealthy place.

This is one of the few known pictures of the Troyville Mound. The main mound, which once stood 80 feet high before being cut down during the Civil War and flattened in 1931, was the second tallest in America. The photo is courtesy of the University of Louisiana in Monroe.

The replica is terrible. Another cool Jonesville fact, it’s one of two places on earth where four rivers connect.

I saw a documentary once that claimed these large mounds were actually the foundations for some type of buildings. It went on to explain or speculate that the buildings were for a central government that existed during prehistoric times. The tribes or clans were huge in numbers and predated the multitude of tribes most of us are familiar with. They claimed those tribes resulted from the splintering of the larger tribe. They thought the splintering was caused by the main tribe getting too large. People on the fringes of the tribal area (which was massive per their map) could not effectively communicate with the central government, so they broke away. Very interesting show. Maybe some of the historians on the board can comment.

bs. indians didnt even invent the wheel, domesticate basic crops, anything.

When the first europeans came over they were met by dudes with stone age tools and weapons. Most indians live in trailer parks and get government checks. Some indians get casino money because some guy that was 1/32 indian opened up an indian casino

My wife is native American. A godless heathen savage. I showed her your post. She said if I didn't say something to you that I was going to bed with an Indian tonight. I'd like to keep my scalp so here goes.

I was wondering what that structure was at the end of the bridge. Makes sense.
