He's one of the only medical professionals who supports the rejection of transgender people. He's certainly the exception, not the norm. The consensus view in the medical community is that transgender people can benefit from acceptance of their transgender identity, and in some cases, from hormone therapy, and even sex reassignment.
I understand that many people will latch on to Dr. McHugh's stance and ignore the scientific consensus that disagrees with him. Such is human nature.

What is the consensus' view on these numbers though?
quote:
“Ten to 15 years after surgical reassignment, the suicide rate of those who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers,” said McHugh.

I think society has accepted and supported transgendered people in the wrong way
rather than accepting that they're not a man anymore because they "identify" as something else, they should accept and support them as people who need psychiatric help
If someone is an alcoholic, society isnt saying "oh my god, let him drink, this is who he is." No, they are trying to get him help for his problem
much of our population has approached this in the completely wrong way
in an effort to be as accepting as possible, many are not actually helping these people, they are just being enablers

You've just given me an idea. I know what to "identify" as now.
