If you mean that they were/are the biggest musical stars on the planet, you're right.

From 62-67, Lennon was the most famous human being on Earth, just like Swift is now.

If you think the Beatles were more influential than Chuck Berry, I have a bridge to sell you.

I can't imagine how much crap he would have subjected us to for the last 30+ years
If he'd lived longer, I think they would have felt compelled to at least talk about him on Sieinfeld, hopefully in jest.

neither was really a frontman while in the Beatles, not in the Ray Davies/John Fogerty sense

I think that’s one thing that surprised Lennon in the 70’s is how much he enjoyed being a frontman/Lead Singer.

He had never experienced that, and the Beatles were so insular, Lennon (as well as the other three) were always surprised and thankful for all the great musicians that wanted to work on their solo projects.

Lennon got Eric Clapton to follow him around for years, and most of their projects consisted of Clapton playing guitar while Yoko wailed incoherently into a microphone.

His own son talked about how Lennon was a piece of shite... just like his wife that he beat. By most accounts he was a hypocrite and an a-hole, but don't let that get in the way of your bullshite.

I'm certainly not implying the guy was perfect, but Sean and Yoko seem to think positively about him.

ETA: And musically speaking, he inspired a generation.

Paul was a better musician and songwriter than John. Lennon was a better singer with a stronger voice.

It would be close. But I still think the nod goes to The Beatles. I enjoy watching musician interviews and so many cite The Beatles on Ed Sullivan as their inspiration to start playing. Almost unanimous with people of a certain age.
