And if anyone wants to help out by going through a church group, there is one I've worked with before that I recommend.

LINK

I was part of a group that came to Baton Rouge last September. They are highly organized and rely mostly on volunteers for labor in relief efforts.

Nope, but I don't need to read an article to know that Osteen is a crook

This is solid work, his prayers are probably worth 10x that of an ordinary person.

They want him to open his flooded church? Why?

Lakewood is one of the highest buildings inside the loop. The church is not flooded and neither is 59 - which is right in front of it. Perhaps the parking garages are but people coming to a shelter typically don't need access to a parking garage.

if they preyed on weak people by telling them they were going to burn for eternity if they didnt give 10% of their income to come watch the games? Yes, it would anger me.

If his church is not flooded and he is not helping people the way that local churches did here in Denham Springs and Baton Rouge, then he is a shitbag. At this point, not sure if his facilities are damaged or not but that would be bad if he is simply shutting down until it blows over, which is what people are suspecting of him.

If he's closing the church for logistical reasons (It's flooding near it. Unable to adequately support any refugees, etc) then I can understand. If he's doing it to protect the carpet from getting dirty, then he deserves every ounce of criticism. Of course if all he's doing is sending out tweets that show his support and not doing anything constructive given the resources he has, then he is clearly a fraud.

How? Like the community aspect or the money aspect? These non denominational ones that throw around cash like a money launderer are sketchy, but I haven't seen many Catholic churches anywhere near that level.
