So it was like a Duke vs. Edwards decision.

Well, the Jesuit order that did pay the largest sexual abuse settlement in the church history is now concerned about health and safety--so cute and endearing!!

Unless all the other Catholic schools are doing the same I’m sure they expect a drop off in enrollment

You certainly don't live in New Orleans. Jesuit will not have enrollment issues. They probably send out twice as many rejection letters as the next high school private or public within 10k tuition
more rejections that the other 5 catholic schools combined. But more than 50% less than they did 20 years ago.

Didn’t realize that the principals of all the catholic schools met after deciding who they’d take to discuss pushing rejected students onto the other schools.
I don't think they get together but I know other schools get their hands on other schools reject lists

MCA is NOT requiring masks.

Masks are optional, plus not requiring vaccine either. Suggesting it, but not required.

Heard MCA was requiring as well. Wonder if it is an Orleans Parish thing.

No they aren’t

Ok. I’m pretty sure at one point an email went out saying that would be the policy. I also know several parents weren’t happy about it and let the principal know about it.

Then I stand corrected. I’ll check my emails but I’m pretty sure my wife told me our daughter didn’t have to wear one bc she’s fully vaccinated

Lots of schools are doing this. Not that surprising, actually.

They might not. According to my wife (MCA alum) the school backed off after the response they had from parents.

20 years ago Katrina hadn't happened yet, Holy Cross was in the lower 9th, there was no Haynes or Thomas Jefferson or Lusher, the North Shore was less populated, Chalmette didn't have a bridge over Judge Perez, and few or none of the Orleans Parish schools were charters yet.

NOPE.

Sometimes the O-T has legit scoops, but this is not one of them. For any who may be curious, here's the official word from Jesuit, as of 6:01 p.m. today:
quote:

The Louisiana Department of health recently updated their COVID operational guidelines for schools for the coming year. Based on these guidelines and after consulting with local health and educational authorities, we plan to conduct a fairly normal school year without the use of masks (students will be allowed to wear Jesuit imprinted or plain masks), temperature checks, etc. Please be aware that if contact tracing is ever necessary due to a COVID exposure, current guidelines require that only students who have not been vaccinated will need to quarantine. Students will be asked to verify vaccination only in the event of a COVID exposure.
Obviously any situation can change, but the rumor here appears to be baseless.

I wonder if they're open about doing this for the faculty and not the students?

The death rates for high school-aged kids is really low. Like lower than the chance of dying in an auto accident.

edit: the OT bamboozled me with fake news.
