Man...bringing back some fine old memories from my youth baseball, football, basketball and soccer days. Representing the Metry Blue Devils from early 80's here. I remember after my team won the championship game before Allstars started, coach took the team to see this movie with super advanced special effects called Tron. We were all pumped after and rocking out to this Photograph song on WRNO by some new band called Def Leppard

So he paid his waiver fee and chose Girard. Your point?

I kinda feel bad for you that you have not experienced this type of camaraderie in your life.

Have developed many relationships with guys from other playgrounds & backgrounds growing up.

The JPRD model was great for decades. It’s time for a pivot for sure I think.

i played in a small town and played against teams from other towns but i sure dont have a sense of pride about what fricking little league i went to. Plenty of friends that played in other towns....but i dont go around saying well....i played at such and such park...becuase im not a frickign loser.

as far as the hs thing goes, sure its fine to ask someone where they went to HS. and its ok to be proud of your hs. i was more speaking of how like some on nola look down on you if you didnt go to a certain hs. its almost like a class system. even if you went on to be a doctor or engineer or some other shite...if you didnt go to a certain hs, some look down on you or act like they are better than you, especially the girls. its like a damn cult.

just like the whole nola is the greatest city in the world and the center of the universe that many down there have. its cult like.

Which again... their money their choice. But let's not act like the on field competition of 7 year old travel is vastly superior to 7 year old rec.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

you have no clue

quote:

At the 7 year old level? There is no difference - no difference - in quality, committment to practice, etc, among 7 year olds in travel vs rec.

yes there is. hell even in tball there is difference in committment amongst some players and its obvious. also a huge difference in how competitive some are.

quote:

What's funny is that these travel teams don't really produce the better players ....appreciably.

yea thats why the game is being played at a high level at all levels.

How many playgrounds and teams did your "small town" have? Every neighborhood in greater New Orleans is almost its own small town with its local businesses, organizations and playground. Or at least they were to a certain extent. Civic pride, no different than yours.

Troll.

Jefferson Parish is offering lacrosse this winter. They are starting at LaSalle Park, and will start with six-a-side, which could turn out to be really fun for the kids.

Turning Bright into a tennis center would be awesome IMO. Probably could also turn the gym into their tumbling and cheer this too and their fields into lacrosse. Bright and Delta have a ton of room and Bright is really centrally located.

You just described why bright should remain a playound. They are pushing all the bright kids to Cleary, which could fit a 16 court tennis complex, but probably doesn’t have enough fields to handle twice as many kids. They are converting the wrong park IMO

Jefferson Parish is one of the few places that still uses a "district" system for rec sports, where you play for your district playground. Many of us grew up with such a system,

I grew up in Pierre Part. It was the Yellow and White Car wash neighborhood vs the Red and White Car Wash neighborhood!

frick travel ball, they have killed playgrounds.
coomba ya from playgrounds in 90s created travel ball, elite and the like.....

heck how many east bank playgrounds don't even have football anymore.

bad management and poor planning by rec ball leaders nationwide 20 years ago and never changing created the monster that ate it.

And Not sure what’s in the water at Girard but I’m sure they are pulling some Bright kids too
they are pulling tons of bright kids. If they just stopped letting waivers happen, girard would lose a lot of numbers. They made this issue themselves

This is how it should be. There is pride and rivalry with district ball, and this new push of one park for all teams eliminates that. Now it's just PE with captains picking teams. Kids today are missing out big time.

we had 1 league with about 6-8 teams. kids from all over sign up and they had a draft and put people on teams

im not trolling. being proud, and it being a point of pride like the op described, of the playground you played ball in is fricking weird. let me guess...you think the A&M cult is just civic pride too?

Tribalism is basic human nature. While you may not attach to that specifically, you attach yourself to other things for a sense of belonging & camaraderie.

LSU for example. It’s in your screen name & you post on an lsu themed message board, but I don’t bet that many people find that out of the ordinary, But it’s the same thing
