Backstory is that the cops decided beforehand that they weren’t going to laugh as a way to insult Ross. They thought he made comments critical of police officers so they tried to shite on him by making him bomb.
Afterward he had to go hat in hand and tell them he didn’t mean anything bad by anything he had ever said about anyone wearing a uniform of any kind (because theyre public servants but force you to kiss their asses all the time or they’ll act like the mob). They accepted his apology and he did another roast with them that was actually pretty funny.

Jeff Ross is a decent roaster, but he kind of set the bar too high for himself with the “I’m the KING of the Roast” shite. Now he absolutely has to kill or it’s a loss. Plus I liked him better with his curly umm Hebrew fro. Now he just looks like a stage 4 cancer survivor that lost everything except weight.

I completely agree. Rickles was the GOAT but roasts became a different animal in the 2000s than they were in his day, that's why I used the "modern" tag with Giraldo.
A great roast that folks rarely hear about was this Patrice O'Neal roast from around 2003. There were many great guests that night but Ben Bailey of Cash Cab stole the show. The video quality leaves a lot to be desired but it's worth bearing. LINK
