Not really. Those that are into the hardcore offroading with jeeps still do it in the 4 door ones.
And manual vs automatic...again I've read that those that hardcore offroad actually prefer automatic

That's just because they can't handle a clutch and a stick.

I always preferred my manual Toyota in offroading and only went to an Automatic when I was doing more highway driving and little to no offroading. I like being able to grab a gear. And when do you ever need to press more than 2 pedals at once?
I also HATE push button 4wd. Give me a shifter every time. If that button acts up you can't push it any harder, but I can stand on the shifter if need be.

I can see this because it wouldn't be as top heavy.
The automatic though I disagree with 100%.
