If they are non-violent and in there for some bullshite drug charge, I don't see an issue. But gang members/leaders, violent offenders or repeat offenders don't need to be released

BTW, ALL THEM MOTHERfrickERS shouldn't have broken the law.
No you stupid frick, not jailing people who are not a danger to society is a conservative approach, you know the whole smaller government deal??
But I do agree now isnt the best time with the economy the way it is. They will have no opportunity to get a job and will have to either leach off the system or return to crime. I hate it as a libertarian but it's where we are.

Louisiana has been releasing prisoners early under “earned compliance credits” for a while. Problem is, it’s not earned at all. They’ve been giving prisoners “earned compliance” on the front end and it cuts their sentence in half. Google it.

Because you can count on people that have been locked up for a while to strictly adhere to stay at home and social distancing upon early release.
That's why you always see school age children trying to get back into their classes the week after school lets out for the summer.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a plan today that will grant early release to state prisoners who are serving sentences for non-violent, non-sex crimes and have less than six months to go on their sentence.
I see nothing wrong with it.
Think about who that leaves..thieves, fraudsters, and methheads. That's who we want roaming the streets right now with no opportunity for employment anywhere in sight.

Correct, people act like it's easy to land in prison . Maybe after your rap sheet hits the second or third page and two failed probation sentences. The instant offenses may be minor but look deeper and find some shite.

If non-violent = drug crimes, that’s one thing. I’d suspect non-violent also encompasses property crime. Letting people out for that is bullshite.
There'll be a big spike in home & business break-ins. And what could go wrong with this? Maybe you get to kill the criminal, or they get to kill you.
Gov. needs to be more specific on who gets let out.

There will also be a spike in home defense shootings.

In East Baton Rouge, over 500 people have been released from EBR Parish Prison due to efforts related to the virus. Calls for service are down 20%. LEO response times have improved roughly 33%. The fearmongering is baseless.

also i think people need to understand these prisoners were getting released in October at the latest anyway

I have a buddy works in Prison system he said They way still transporting them around everyday.
Think about that... they are under quarantine and yet bc of money they feel it’s a good idea to play monopoly with prisoners.
Not real smart.

From what I have been told, there is very little movement within prisons/DOC facilities, much less between them. Genuinely not trying to dox the guy, but can you say where he works?

Ah, the Feds are their own animal. I know there was an order out to get as many people out of Oakdale as possible... a week or so ago? Sounded like things were bad up there.

And a good many of those will most likely be back in before October given that they've been offered a free Summer. To be incarcerated, there's a very good chance that it's not the first prison rodeo for most of these fine citizens.

But yeah, on the state level, there is functionally no movement between prisons or prisons and DOC facilities right now. Even someone who might plead guilty to a felony and receive a DOC sentence is currently remaining in the parish prison they were housed in for now.
I know in the EBRPP, anytime there is someone who so much as displays symptoms, their entire line is locked down on quarantine. They won't even transport those guys to a different part of the prison to appear remotely for a court appearance.

Fearful of persons who have already landed themselves in prison once before..surely they won't commit one crime upon release.
Calls for service and reported/unreported crimes have little correlation. Most people are on lockdown, of course the bs calls for service and auto accidents are going to go down.
