Yes, if it's give me your car or I will shoot you.

Just checking in to say thanks to loopback for reminding me that people like you exist.

Your reasoning in this argument is bafflingly stupid. Carry on.

clearly you can acknowledge that saying "I'm gonna call in a bomb threat" is very different from actually calling in said bomb threat.

And clearly you can acknowledge the synonymy between threatening to set off a bomb and threatening to shoot someone in the head.

Yes, and neither should land a person in fricking prison without context. Jesus what is it with you people?

Point a gun and make the threat? Sure that's assault

Having a bomb on you and make the threat? Sure.

There's a difference between a credible threat and nonsense said out of anger with no visible intent to back it up.

Instead of contributing nothing to the discussion but juvenile name calling, how about you elaborate? Why do you think it's stupid? I'd love to hear.

You realize this is part of the statute that charged the guy right... and is a part of all statutes addressing the same behavior in other states? You also don't need to be pointing a gun in someone's face or have a bomb strapped to you for a threat to be credible.

Then you tell me what is a credible threat and what isn't if you can't base credibility on subsequent actions?

“When he was later apprehended that same night by deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office he was found to be in possession of a gun,” Barron said. “In a later interview with the suspect, he admitted that he did have the gun while he was at the high school.”

If a guy toting a gun threatens to shoot someone in the head, I would call that a credible threat. Wouldn't you?

Basing credibility on things that haven't happened yet (or "subsequent actions") is how you end up with a dead basketball coach.

Rural Missouri is a scary place.

I’d nominate that area for least hospitable in the country. Maybe all the meth withdrawals, or dealing with people on it all the time. Just a lot of angry people for whatever reason.

So what should happen to the person who states "I am going to shoot the president in the head next week"? Still just making sounds with his mouth?

yes, 100% yes. Should he be watched? Extra security on the president? yes but throwing him in jail for saying ANYTHING is borderline tyranny.
