Even they are wealthier than you.
I guarantee they make a lot more money than a guy living under an overpass.

I will address one point worth discussing that he made - not to excuse it- but to explain it;
The war ended in 1945. What the Imperial Japanese did from roughly 1933 to 1945 has few equals in barbarity in human history. It has its roots in Shinto/ Samurai/Feudal tradition. Whatever you say it was, it was even worse. No argument.
But then the war ended. Imperial Japan was dead. They quickly embraced their alliance with the US. They aren’t just pro- American they are overwhelmingly pro- American. They consume our culture ferociously. They come here. We go there. I personally lived with two Japanese families. They are wonderful people in general.
As for war crime- denial- sure. That has been the case. I’d call it crime- ignorance. They just don’t know what they don’t know. Just like American kids think the Civil war was fought against Germany and Canada in 1777. Their reason for this is not based in some great evil- it’s based in the ingrained Japanese principle of FACE , which is the avoidance of shame. That’s all it is- a kind of internal agreement to atone through cooperation and positive action but to avoid the humiliation of having to talk about it. That’s the choice their government made and it is at odds with Christian ideas but perfectly consistent with their norms. Especially 8 decades later when it belongs to history.All that would go completely over a monosyllabic Gump’s mushy head.

Hes a loyal comrade who needs a violent revolution to afford food without food stamps.

Singapore is great. The government controls the media, but you could argue that’s just an inevitability of democracy and the political instability that ensues. It’s why Plato didn’t like democracy. We’re seeing the devolution of democracy into tyranny in the US, the difference is we lie about it, Singapore at least kind of owns up to it.

The people in Singapore speak English only because it’s a common language. I don’t think any ethnic group or religion holds more than a 40% majority. It’s an extremely diverse population with many different ethnic neighborhoods. It’s their culture.

You get the impression while in Singapore that they mean business if you step out of line, but the people seem content. I wasn’t sure where the line was most of the time. Public places sold alcohol that you could drink in public. The hooker game was very strong. The public safety factor is a huge plus for me.

I've flown through Okinawa and maybe spent one night. I hear the locals don't like Marines?
Some don’t. It’s an ever growing sentiment there. They’re just tired of being occupied. However, if you can look below the surface, and are able to mesh with their culture (not as a Marine, but just an outsider) it’s a beautiful place. I dated s girl there for a while and was able to see behind the curtain a little. Really nice, hard working, folks. It is what it is with the bases. I think we’re moving out of Okinawa, for the most part, and relocating everything to Australia. I spent a month in Australia the last time I deployed to Okinawa. We went there to train on our crew served weapons. We stayed at some dudes ranch out in the outback…I’m sure they’ve built proper bases now to use. We’ll always keep an airfield on Okinawa, but there isn’t a necessity to keep the number of troops we had in the past. If anything, with less jarheads running around, I bet it’s even nicer there now.
