Ken is impressed with more than just James’ buzzer skills.
“But his strategy requires a player of his extraordinary knowledge and accuracy. Holzhauer’s question-answering (answer-questioning?) stats are remarkable, and as good as those of anyone who has ever picked up a buzzer. If you’re a oncein-a-generation talent, playing “Jeopardy!” the James Holzhauer way works. For less elite players, it might backfire. But either way, a version of “Jeopardy!” where more contestants feel that they need to wager big to win is going to produce a more exciting game.
I’m the only person alive who knows firsthand how difficult it is to do what Holzhauer is doing, and that’s why I’m rooting him on. I may hold a bunch of “Jeopardy!” records, but at heart I’m just a fan of the show. And for any real “Jeopardy!” fan, this streak is something special.”

The guy is more than a history buff. He calculates odds better than anyone ever has on Jeopardy, and that show has been around for more than a minute. He’s pretty dang sharp.
ETA: I see what you did there.

His professional gambling background pays dividends and will probably change the way people bet on daily doubles in the future.

Anyone who gets on jeopardy knows 99% of the questions. His major advantage is his aggressiveness on doubles and he has apparently figured out the buzz in timing with absolute masterful precision.

Funny thing is James plays the game with probably about as optimal a strategy as possible.
Makes you wonder how much money other greats left on the table.

"He is having a tough time going into final Jeopardy..."
My first time watching him today. Thought I was going to jinx him. He was way behind....
Say him on The Chase where he beat The Beast.

Or maybe, he’s both good at trivia AND smart?

I told my wife one day, "How would you like to be trying to get on Jeopardy for a few years, go through the interviews, trial games, etc. and finally get picked.
Then get on the show and this guy is on the end where the current champion is standing. Kind of takes the wind out of your sails for most contestants as has been witnessed.

So did he win today??????????

Yes. Closest game he's had thus far.
Entered Final Jeopardy with only about a $6,000 lead.
Won by about $17,000.

The person that finally takes him down will feel like God, though.
And then probably lose his or her first or second title defense.

If I'm not mistaken, he won by a little over $400 a couple weeks ago. The guy that came in second was a pretty formidable opponent and kept the game close.
