A flood wouldn't clean out what some of you think are the undesirable. It would hit the mainly white parts of town but for around McLeod elementary.

I grew up one street over from McLeod, went there 1-6 and it was a great school. Lived through the 79 and 83 floods (luckily we didn't flood). The 79 flood is my first memory. That neighborhood has completely changed since then.

I lived in Jacktown during the historic 1979 flood. This could be worse. Consider 40 years of development & 40 years of sediment built up along the Pearl River, which flows through Jacktown.

Jacktown needs to start over, this could be a 1st step.

It's not as bad. 79 was at 43. This is 38.

Big rains projected for next week though so it could rise past 79.

Not predicting big rain. 4-5" dropped northeast of Jackson this week in the basin. Next week is predicted 1-2". We will see. Although with 40 years of silt and development along the river in the metro 38' could be worse than expected.

Son was supposed to play two soccer games there Sunday...one was canceled and one was moved just south to Wesson.

When I've been at the JFC complex for tournaments, I've often noticed a large pipe (manhole?) sticking probably 10 feet out of the ground on the edge of the complex closest to the river. I assume the pipe provides access to the sewer system, and it is so far above the ground because that's the expected highwater mark from flooding.

Maybe McGowan's "One Lake" proposal will get some traction and in 30 years there might be some nice development.

Not sure about that pipe but JFC was under water at 34’. It’s going to be a while until it’s playable again.

At this point NE Jackson is the only area in danger. Boil water alert, state of emergency by mayor. I really don't know how this will unfold. It may be a bunch fear mongering or legitimate flooding and damage.
