Would you rather live adjacent to the hood in Jackson in 2026 with reliable air conditioning or a safe tree-lined neighborhood in Jackson in 1938 with no air conditioning?

A strong argument could probably be made one way or the other, but I would choose the hood adjacent option.

Air conditioning didn’t turn Jackson MS into “the hood”.

You can have AC without crime and terrible neighborhoods.

We had family in Jackson, and I recall visiting the city as a child in the mid-1940s. I was most impressed with the zoo, and over the years, made several visits there.

When I lived in Jackson I could always tell by the buildings and architecture that there was a better time. Neighborhoods such as Belhaven with all its lines of tudor houses also proved that. I left in the mid-90s for Seattle which was paradise at the time and now I find myself watching nostalgic videos of when I moved here and times before.

It was just a random hypothetical question. Not a history lesson or commentary.
