Garavito confessed to murdering about 140 children and was charged with killing 172 altogether throughout Colombia.

Garavito was sentenced to 1,853 years and 9 days in prison, the lengthiest sentence in Colombian history.[26] However, Colombian law limits imprisonment to 40 years—and because Garavito helped police find the victims' bodies, his sentence was further reduced to 22 years

He will become eligible for parole in 2023, when he has served three quarters of his sentence

If you think La Beastia was bad just want until you read how El Ogre killed the LSU football program.

How many "John's" had the prostitute gone through the night she was killed? I don't think hygiene was an important issue in that time frame.

quote:thats the most logical conclusion. the murders stopped when that guy moved to nyc and there was a string of murders in NYC around that time that didnt get near the press.
I’d always heard that they thought it was a doctor cutting women up for research purposes.

You're thinking of Jack the raper.

Yeah, everyone knows it was that doctor friend of H.G. Wells. He got away in H.G. Wells' time machine but Wells caught up to him in San Francisco in 1979 and did him in.

I could have happily continued my existence without knowing any of that. Thanks

Even though the theory doesn't make much sense I'm sticking with "the guy who wrote Alice in Wonderland did it" because that is more fun

There is some evidence that H.H. Holmes (America's first serial killer) was in London during the time of the White Chappel murders and could have been JTR.

Yeah, it just seems the killing styles/motivations were too different to me. Theres much more of a sex and raw insanity component with the Ripper, vs HH killed many of his victims pretty much strictly for financial gain.

I thought it was Bilbo Baggins.

Nice update on this one:

Garavito died at a hospital in Valledupar on 12 October 2023, at the age of 66

I thought "he" was a secret society death cult made up of more than one person

Maybe this case is finally solved.
I remember reading something about this when they found the shawl and it was blood stained. I hadn't read about semen as well.
Now that being said, I wouldn't rule out anything on someone depraved enough to commit those murders.

After years of research, Russell Edwards believes he has finally uncovered the identity of Jack the Ripper. A bloodstained shawl found at the crime scene of victim Catherine Eddowes was tested for DNA evidence. The results reportedly match Aaron Kosminski, a Polish-born barber who has long been a suspect.
