Hang in there man. We are all human. I hate to hear this about anyone and wish you the very best.

Often, it's not what happens to you, it's how you handle it. Just do the best you can do, and that's all any family and loved ones expect.

Hope you can make peace with it and with your life and decisions thereafter. Follow your inner compass. Do what you can do. Were all only human, destined to not live forever, but bound by time and experience.

Good luck!

This gave me a much needed break from dealing with doctors and family (the latter is the worst part).

that is why all of us come here, man...whether it is something major or just the daily grind, we all come here just to read the foolishness and stop thinking about life for a little while....I hope you continue to do so as well....

My old boss's wife had this. She was sick for about 2 months. Only lost mental capacity for the last week and she passed. Very sad. Prayers sent. It's really tough on the family because of the aggressive nature of those tumors. God speed.

Unfortunately, the lady I know didn't seek out any of the treatment options that so many on here posted. They only found out the week before because she had been misdiagnosed. Sounds like there are some really good options available to treat this form of cancer. Frick cancer

For the OP. What's one thing you've always considered to be something you would HAVE to do? Make it known here and id love to sponsor it and start a way for fellow posters to help and contribute to make it true. This is by far the best forum and we all know this. We give people shite but will be the first to support our own.

If there is something you want to say "I've done that." Make it known. We can take care of the rest. If I'm out of line here let me know. I just like to help my fellow man/woman.

I waited a while before opening this thread, I just read it all, teared up the entire time. I am sorry and I wish there was something I could do.

There was some very good advice from people that obviously knew what they were talking about and you should check into some of the suggestions. I pray for you and your family.

I just read this on some cancer forum.....the person wrote this in 2012

"I was diagnosed with GBM in Sept 2002...the tumor was the size of a golf ball in the left frontal lobe. I knew something was wrong when I began to get headaches and nausea that couldn't be fixed with over-the-counter medicine. I also lost feeling in the ring and pinky fingers on both hands. I didn't think it was too serious at the time so you can imagine my surprise when my doctor told me it was a brain tumor. (I was 25 at the time). I ended up going to Duke in Durham, NC for treatment and very proud to say I am 10 years cancer-free! My treatment started out with radiation for 6 weeks along chemo (Temodar, CCNU, Celebrex, etc) for a year.
I know that others have not been so fortunate and my heart does go out to those families. I just wanted to share my story so that others will know there are survivors living longer."

My oldest brother passed away from glioblastoma multiforme in 2012. He battled it for 13 months. His desire to live was an amazing, inspiring thing to witness. This disease stripped away the facade of the lives we live everyday. It exposed what is truly vital and important in our lives. You've chosen to fight this fight...Don't doubt...You will see the life that you had, (family, friends, experiences), will push you through this life that you have. You are in my prayers...You can beat this. God Bless...

I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor.

Very aggressive type. The biggest issue is the "spider" nature of the glio. Duke and MD Anderson would be my suggestion for second opinions.

I am very scared about losing my mental capacity.

This mostly depends where it is located. With my sister it was in the "sensor" part of the brain so it affected her periphial vision but she was mentally alert and had good memory and functioning.

quote:

I don't want to be around once my brain function is gone.

Make sure that is taken care of now then in terms of who you choose as your health care surrogate, how you set up your living will, and how you designate these decisions while you are still able.

For the stuff they don't tell you I offer 3 personal observation:

1) Where you find your faith is not important, but finding it is
2) Surround yourself with good people, and discard the bad ones
3) Get the best medical opinions even if you have to go outside your sphere of contacts

When my sister was first diagnosed she was given 2 months by the "experts" in the hospitals within 50 - 100 miles of where she lived. She wound up at Duke and MD Anderson and passed that 2 months by at least a decade. About 90% of that decade was quality time with family and friends.

You are in my heart and in my prayers. I am almost never on here but you can usually find me on the Rant.

Similar story with my sister

You were there probably around the same time she was. Said you did treatment, but did you have any operations?

Cheesegrits, read the top of my post.

Sounds like Duke is a good place to go.
