I absolutely love dogs and most animals. But being raised in the country, we always had at least one dog and were always raising at least on calf. Dad always taught us that they were animals and to not get too attached. I feel for you I just never understood ppl who get so emotionally attached to a animal.

Sorry for your loss.
My dogs are almost 11 and 10...so I know they are getting older and in a few years will no longer be by my side. I've seen stories where people went and got their dogs cheeseburgers or steaks for their dog to eat on their last day. Took them to the park one last time. I think I would like to do something like that if it was possible. I'd bring our lab mix to a pool to swim one last time. Take a day off of work and just cuddle on the couch with my pug all day one last time while feeding him cut up cheeseburgers.

Mine wasn't eating much at the very end, but the days leading up to it I roasted a turkey and gave her nothing but white meat. She always loved being in the kitchen around the holidays.

My 14 yr old "mutt" is getting to the point where she needs to be put down. She is peeing ALL the time, is stone deaf, and has a bad back leg, her push off leg. When she goes down, she has a hard time getting back up. But those big brown eyes...makes it hard as they do not show her really suffering. Is there a way to put her down at home, as opposed to taking her to a vet or having one come to my home? Costs for either seem to be running in the $250-350 range & while not a factor, I am just curious.

our old vet used to put them down for free. The new vet that took his place charges about $300 now. Seems like if you've gone to the same one for the whole dog's life, the vet shouldn't charge you when you're feeling like crap.

Yes, but you are not going to like the answer. I get that it is tough to do it with it being your own pet. Get a friend to do it for you. .22 rifle or pistol, one shot. Ends the suffering instantly. Some will say I am a heartless a-hole but this is how I was raised, you never leave a animal suffering. Anyone who was raised old school in the country will tell you the same.
