Yeah..that's where we all started. Html in notepad. Probably seems useless and trivial at the moment but the fundamental skills learned are important for your growth.

Example... One single misplaced character can frick your entire shite up real quick

Yeah that's who I was thinking too, gyno.

Although I will say that if you can hop on a good ITIL cert that is worth having. A+ and even some MS certs at this point are handed out like food stamps.

If you don't have a degree and you want to be a help desk tech, A+ or Network+ are worthwhile... And agree MCSE might also have some value..

But learning skills for what you want to do is paramount.. SSRS, MVC, ASP.Net, C#, C/C++, Java, Javescript, PHP, MVC frameworks (angular, bootstrap, etc) and MySQL is super important.

I could go on and on... I deal with this shite ALL DAY LONG.

You should consider if you want to do consulting or work for a company with an IT department.

Consulting companies are probably easier to get in at if you don't have much experience. They make their money based on how many people they put out in the field, so if they can market you at all they will put you to work. Coming out of college I basically learned to code on the job with a consulting company.

Just my 2 cents: I have worked in both environments more than once and I much prefer working at an in-house IT Dept. If you are a consultant you have to prove yourself all over again every time you go to a new client. Also, they expect you to hit the ground running before you have even learned anything about their environment.

I'd agree with this. I enjoyed the constant change of consulting, but it gets old after a while. Working in-house now. Much slower pace, better pay and I enjoy seeing projects evolve beyond initial deployment.

The problem there is they want people with 10 years experience, and they want them for $35,000. Coincidentally, IBM is looking to get a bunch of visas expedited so they can bring in some Indians.

I've known several people that have worked for IBM in various capacities and every single one of them says they will burn you out faster than any other company out there. Would not recommend, no matter how much cash they throw at you.

Not to mention every single product or service I have ever used from them has sucked balls.
