I know right? Especially when you can vape

I was puffing on my vapetron 2720i with an aromatic blueberry essential oil flavor in the movie theatre when an usher came over and tried to kick me out. I preceded to recite the speech from to kill a mockingjay about civil liberties and he backed away profusely apologizing. I think I saw him crying

A hottie from down the row scooted over closer to me and said "I've always wanted to meet a brave vaper like you" needless to say we went out to the parking lot after transformers was over ;)

Smoking causes free radical damage to every cell in your body, not just your lungs, and increases bodily inflammation. This increases your overall risk for many diseases other than cancer, specifically heart disease and stroke.

I hate to say it, but I automatically lose some respect for individuals who smoke. I can't help it. It's the most terrible health decision you can make.

And for every 90 year old smoking grandpa, there are dozens who died in their 50s and 60s who would still be around had they not smoked. Some people just have superior genetics.

I was walking down a side street in Paris and I passed twenty kids from 10-15 years old and they were all smoking

What business are you in that you work with French people?

So many in here are jumping on smokers for the health issues and the costs to society. It appears smokers live, on average 10 years less than non-smokers. They're being called trashy and stupid.

Is anyone willing to apply that same logic to male homosexuals who have even shorter life expectancies?

Not a smoker, never have been...but I do understand it. Like a lot of kids I tried my first cigarette at around 9 years old.. ...and nothing could have imparted greater reverence and awe on a 9 year old than finding out I could make smoke come out of my head... I never took up the habit but every few years or so I'll allow myself to light up if a buddy has one to offer... and again, feel the power of Hephaestus, son of Zeus, as he smote the warriors of the River God Scamander in aide of the great Achilles, in all his divine glory, bellowing smoke over the smoldering encampment of ruin, as the river god begged for mercy......

Sorry for your genetics, but dont use politics to blame me and curtail my liberty. None of us asked to be born, some are in lucky sperm club, others in lucky genetics club, others in both. Most however are in neither. Random sumbitches we all are, some just more random than others.

Just keep telling yourself it is random.

Increased risk of cancer from smoking compared to a non smoker.

LINK

For every 10 non-smoking men that develop lung cancer 230 men who smoke will develop lung cancer, for every 10 men that develop cancers of the mouth 110 men who smoke will develop a form of mouth cancer.

Lung cancer: 23.3 (men) & 12.7 (women)
Cancers of larynx: 14.6 & 13
Cancers of mouth, lip & pharynx: 10.9 & 5.1
Esophageal cancer: 6.6 & 7.8
Pancreatic cancers: 2.3 for both men & women
Stomach cancers: 2.0 & 1.4
Cervical cancer: 1.6 (women)
Bladder cancer: 3.2 & 2.2
Kidney & other urinary cancers: 2.7 & 1.3
Acute myeloid leukemia: 1.9 & 1.1

It is also interesting to view the percentage of cancer deaths for each cancer type that are attributable to smoking.

Lung: 80%
Cancer of the Larynx: 78%
Cancer of the Esophagus: 74%
Cancers of the Mouth, lip & pharynx: 61%
Bladder: 39%
Cancer of the Pancreas: 22%
Kidney: 21%
Stomach: 20%
Acute Myeloid Leukemia: 17%
Cervix: 13%

Smoking is also responsible for an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary and ischemic heart disease, strokes, and aneurysms because it causes hypertension (chronic high blood pressure) and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Smoking also increases the risk of developing, and subsequently dying from other lung diseases such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

Not really. You simply don't want to look at it with the same critical eye.

We've got people in here criticizing smokers and fatties for their negative health impacts and costs to the system, why not a group that dies even earlier?

Yea the French DGAF. They drink the frick out of wine and Ricard and smoke as soon as they are old enough to flick a lighter.

I live in Cameroon which is packed full of French. I have several good friends who are French and they all smoke. I'm not a smoker personally but I enjoy a good shisha or cigar on occasion when I'm out having drinks.

Nah. I know that statistics but your shallow analysis excludes a really important factor - promiscuity. Male homosexuals with limited partners have roughly the same life expectancy as the general public. The promiscuity variable throws that stat out of whack due to HIV/AIDS which is transmitted most easily through anal sex.

In terms of smoking, there is really no variable within the practice of smoking that moves the "risk needle."

So, like I said earlier, it's a bit of reach. You're trying to compare a lifestyle (with and without a risky behavior) to a risky behavior, per se.

Because fatties and smokers kill themselves but God's curse kills the "group" that dies earlier??
