Turkey has gone decidedly more Islamic than secular in the past 20+ years, mainly under Erdogan.
In fact, he send a flotilla to the Palestinians sometime in that time to try and antagonize Israel.
Just because we have relations with Turkey doesn’t mean that they aren’t run by an asshat.
They only reason they are in NATO is their geographical location. We might need their airspace.

Supporting Hamas after what they did is next level stupid.
I agree.
I was young 15 or so when we went into Afghanistan, but were there protests like this everywhere that were pro-Taliban? Honestly asking because you couldn't have paid me to keep up with any news back then.

Not that I remember.
NYC being hit as opposed to, say, Tuscaloosa AL, may have had something to do with it.
People like Richard Gere who advocated against military action got roundly booed when they suggested it, so any pro-Taliban protests probably would have not ended well.

quote:No but there were a lot of people opposed to an invasion and the resulting civilian casualties. The number of children being killed in Gaza is alarming and likely underreported by most of the media. You can want the bombing to stop and also not support Hamas.

I doubt it. Most reports cite "the Gaza Ministry of Health", which......if it is anything reported out of Gaza it is 100% filtered through Hamas. AFP has done well to always note that, calling it the "Hamas Ministry of Health". Some of the videos of "dead kids/babies" are so incredibly fake that it is almost laughable. That's not saying kids haven't died, but that this is a tried and true Hamas play to garner sympathy. It works.

Elon just suspended one journalist’s account after he posted recent drone footage of the destruction of Al Zahar City. Just like Hamas, Israel has its own propaganda machine running.

bullshite. If you read most of the mainstream news, you would think that Israel is ONLY killing kids and innocent civilians. Which we know isn't the case.

That's the result when you wrap your weapons of war and terrorism into every aspect of civilian life. With rocket launchers next to hospitals, schools, and daycares, and major command centers under hospitals, what do you expect?

As difficult to wrap your head around as kids that had their heads sawed off by medieval barbarians?

Israeli kids being killed is awful. Palestinian kids being killed is awful.

Too bad it’s a little more nuanced than that but that line is just too easy for your average American to digest and repeat to their church small group. I get it.

Be sure to note that one of those has much more of a choice in the matter. When Israel told them to leave, Hamas blocked roadways. When Israel said they were going to blow up buildings that are strategic to Hamas, buildings that just so happen to be apartment buildings and such, Hamas said, "Do not leave. We live in our homes, we die in our homes."
Hamas uses children and innocent civilians as a tool of war. They are disposable to Hamas. Their deaths serve the purpose of garnering sympathy and rallying support, even if those deaths are wholly avoidable.

Since the October 7th attack Hamas hasn't stopped letting rockets fly towards innocent Israeli civilians. As already stated, they do so from the confines of their civilian population. Hamas has a choice. They refuse to make it.

Don’t feed the troll at this point.
Anyone continuing to demand “peace” here and equivocate between people dying in shelling of a terrorist-run enclave and people who got slaughtered by terrorists isn’t worth arguing with.

No, it's not more nuanced than that.
Appeasers want to talk "nuance".
You either eliminate the threat or you allow it to continue.

Sadly this is true. It’s to the point now that if you don’t stop it, it just won’t stop. And just wait till Israel starts bombing Lebanon. The shite will get real then. I do think we get involved the farther this goes.

It sounds like Iran's proxy attacks on US bases/interests have ramped up over the past few hours.
