Most people are nice when you’re giving them money.

I believe the planning had been going on for quite some time.

But the release of the money allowed them to go with the plan.

Why go forward with an attack and jeopardize getting $6 billion?

Eh, it lacked a lot of details.

Now that is disingenuous. You are free to read the proposal. It was not light on details.

But in short, it was a map dividing a newly stateless part of the world, creating a Jewish Palestine, Arab Palestine, and a neutral body governing Jerusalem.

Jewish Palestine accepted the plan and formed a democracy in Jewish Palestine. Arab nation states and Arab Palestine rejected it, and Egypt, Jordan and Syria invaded the former British mandate. They did this not to liberate the territory to form a larger, better Arab Palestine - they did this to conquer more land for themselves. Gaza and the West Bank and the inability of Arab Palestine to form a functioning government is not a bipolar problem of Israel and Palestine. It is an Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine problem (and Iran and Saudi).

Israel has never offered a viable two-state solution.

Maybe. But Israel is the only party to this whole affair that has signed on the dotted line to accept a two state solution, and is the only State actor that has given back territory it presently controls at the peace table.

I hardly think Israel is a good faith actor in most instances, but this development this morning was really foolish on the part of the Palestinians.

It now gives pretext to Israel steamrolling the Gaza strip for the sake of national defense. A lot of innocent Palestinians are going to lose their lives due to that decision.

It's not at all.

OK. That's just a framework.

So what? Again, what Israel has offered is not viable. Also, what Palestine has offered isn't either.

All of this.

I’m generally against the US getting involved in foreign wars, this is different.

Again, they're not. I don't know why you people can't admit to that. You can still support Israel, just be honest.

I get being able to recognize what's not viable, but is there such thing as a viable plan?

If supporting the only democratic state in a sea of goat fricking filthy tyrants is wrong I don’t want to be right.

Shill for the muslims all you want but truth is if somebody wanted you dead and wiped off the map your probably have a frick you attitude as well.

I don't know. I'm tempted to say no because right now neither side seems to want one.

Go back through my post history, I am hardly a gung ho supporter of Israel. In fact I think the creation of the state has lead to a good amount of violence in the middle east post WW 1 (specifically the fall of the Ottomans and the creation of the mandates).

That said, the Palestinians have hardly helped themselves in this situation and are equally responsible for the continued bloodshed in that region. They have had plenty of opportunities to avoid this scenario, where suddenly the Israelis are justified in just conquering the territory and ending all hopes of a Palestinian state. The Palestinians could have ended this in continued peace a long time ago

I hear this a lot. I guess it's better than the religious wackadoos, but why should this be such a compelling interest? Israel has sold some of our military secrets to the ChiComs for God's sake. The support is a one way street.

This is idiocy. That area has been referred to as Palestine for millennia. Herodotus even referred to it as such.
