the idea that we all follow the same God is pretty ridiculous.
Not really when you know that both Islam and Christianity branched off from Judaism at different times. Christianity branched off from Judaism following the time of Jesus and really became its own religion after the Jewish Revolt in the latter half of the 1st century. Islam sorta branched off from Christianity in the 7th century.
So yes, they worship the same god, just different interpretations. They have the same founder, Abraham, and all share much of the stories in Genesis.

No they dont. Your point?
You seemed to be speaking pejoratively of Muslims because they didn't believe in Jesus as the son of God.. sorry I think I was thinking of Pettifrogger

what's better, someone who thinks your dude was a man ordained by God to do good or someone who thinks your dude was a snake-oil salesman con artist who was worse than a rapist murdering Barabas?

Not me. One of my best friends just converted to Islam. I find all religions facinating. Muslims need to take care of their little radical problem before they start a World War but most Muslims I know are very decent people.

Ok, so what is the point in having a "similar" foundation if the faiths are, in many ways, incompatible with each other.
It makes sense to me to talk about the shared attributes of faiths when seeking common ground or reconciliation. The idea that the Islamic interpretation of God, in Allah, which I do not believe accurately represents the God of Christianity, is the same God as my own, seems to me to be a purposeless equivocation.

All fair enough. They sprouted from the same seed but don't resemble each other these days.

The difference lies in the primary prophets used. The Jews rely on the 5 books of Moses plus the many prophets since his death until the end of the Babylonian Exile.
The Christians rely on all of those prophets and the books of Moses plus the teachings of Jesus, the works of his apostles, the letters of Paul, and the revelations of John of Patmos.
Islam seemed to throw away much of the books in Moses, only keeping a few of them, and ignored the prophets of Israel. They base their religion primarily on the prophet Muhammad, the founder of their faith. Just as the followers of Jesus rejected many of the laws of the Jews, the founders of Islam rejected many of the former prophets and installed their own laws. However, they do still hold Jesus in high regard despite not believing that he is the messiah. The believe that Muhammad, upon his return, will be the messiah.
So let's break it down:
Jews: waiting for the messiah
Christians: waiting for the messiah to come back
Muslims: waiting for out prophet to return as the messiah
Nope, not similar at all.

god of old testament = god of new?
what does "Allah" say, that your "God" does not, in the books you believe in?

Yep. Monotheism is a proper disease alright.
And if it hasn't been stated, Hamas exists because the Israelis encouraged them to. I guess we now know why.
You bible beaters are a riot. I wonder how you'd feel if you knew exactly how few fricks the average Israeli gives about anyone, especially your white American arse. You are a servant to them.
I love their long running gag of "warning" people before bombing them. Sure, the warnings now take the form of preliminary, smaller bombs and the people warned have no place to run, but hey, they help us to "stabilize" the region. :roflmao:
Unfortunately, they are so petty and contemptible that they would try to burn the whole world if they couldn't get their petty little way. Oh wait, that's what the nut job religios WANT to have happen. I forgot.
Onward Christian sooooldiiiieerrrsss.....

I can't tell if you're being facetious or not. You've done a pretty good, if not thorough job of explaining major distinctions, all of which are significant and reinforce my prior assertions.
There is no doubt that shared history and similarities in tenets are prevalent, that doesn't mean we all worship the same deity.
Even if we accepted that as true, which I have trouble doing even in the abstract, it's meaningless. It's like saying taking 3 people with radically different visions for America and saying we're all still Americans. What is the value in that assertion?
The answer, obviously, is nothing. The "we worship the same God" line is only trotted out in times like these, in a pretty weak effort to develop unity among warring factions. If we were worshipping the same God, it seems the unification would be somewhat unnecessary or at least less frequent, no?
